Soul Sugar Biography :
Driven by keyboard player Guillaume Metenier (Seven Dub/Pro-Zak Trax, The Hunter/Maine Recordings, Grant Phabao/TIMEC...), Soul Sugar brings you a wise combination of timeless soul jazz, funk, latin and african music... with a personnal twist. Their repertoire includes reinterpretations of rare musical gems as well as original numbers. Each musician brings his own flavour for a soulful and groovy en diable result.

They have blown away the audience of the New Morning club in Paris, opening for Eumir Deodato for their first gig... They will be playing at the second Bam Bam Club party on September, 6th, along with DJ Vadim, DJ Damage, Princess Lea and Radio Salah (La Bellevilloise, Paris). More info here.

The band is actually working on a full lengh album and has just released two vinyl 7 inches. The first one is a blazing rendition of Nico Gomez classic "Ritual" on German label Mocambo, followed by "Nothing but the truth" an original psychedelic funk number, pressed in Jamaica as a limited edition on their own "SugarShack" label. The recordings are produced & mixed by Kid Loco.

Soul Sugar plans to release a few more 7" and an album - and they're looking for labels and/or distributors... Coming next on SugaShack is a new 45 with a cover of Dr Lonnie Smith.

The band is available live as a trio (drums, guitar, organ) or as a quartet or quintet (drums, guitar, organ plus sax, flute and/or percussions).

A complete Soul Sugar Discography is available on www.parisdjs.com

Press Release :
What do you call a project featuring modern Jazz/Fusion/Jam's most ubiquitous guitarist, Roots Reggae music's most prolific drummer, and three players from the biggest American Reggae band in the world?

Rockamovya brings together long time Jazz-heavyweight, Grammy nominated Will Bernard (Motherbug, Stanton Moore trio, Dr. Lonnie Smith), the incomparable Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace (Burning Spear, The Abyssinians, the cult film classic "Rockers") and Ryan Newman (bass), Marcus Urani (organ/keys/piano) and Harrison Stafford (rhythm guitar/ vocals) of the internationally acclaimed Cali-based Reggae-Fusion group Groundation for what will surely be a genre-defying classic of an album.

Rockamovya is already generating a strong buzz within the more traditional music industry, as well as the ever-growing conscious music community. The expansive and altogether new sound Rockamovya emits is due in large part to the inter-generational links the album has created. Whether its Horsemouth's 1960's era steppers rhythms, Bernard's 1970's inspired jazz-funk licks, or the wholly unique 21st century roots sound of Groundation, Rockamovya reaches across demographics and genres to entice and enthral listeners of any and every tribe.

The Procussions - Simple Song (Grant Phabao Remix)

The Procussions - Simple Song (Grant Phabao Remix)
(12" virtual release/MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) Rawkus/T.I.M.E.C. TIMEC122, 2006-11-14

Review :
In those hard times when government individuals thrive more and more on the poor, it's really nice to meet educated and involved artists. The Procussions are that kind of people, nice, intelligent and with something to say, without ever losing their natural cool. This is rare enough to be pointed out...
Their latest album, "5 Sparrows For 3 Cents", was released earlier this year in the US but only in november 2006 in Europe. It's top-of-the-notch L.A. hip hop, funky, old school, with plenty of sunshine, so we thought at Paris DJs headquarters that it could be a good idea to try and do a collaboration with them, that could also help promote their french tour.
The band got into the idea right away and soon -thanks to the Internet- the french dubmeister Grant Phabao, who recently reworked some George Clinton, Lee McDonald, Ty or Alice Russell tracks, received some vocal parts to play with...
A few days later a new reggae instrumental was born, wonderfully gracing The Procussions' track with skanking riffs, heavy bass, clavinets chops, echo, reverb and lots of percussion - Phabao style.
This is hip hop/reggae mashing-up at his best, we're just plain proud to offer you this as a free download. Get it while it's hot and don't miss the rest of the tour (see dates below).
Feedback :
"It's Fresh!" (Jalal, The Godfather of Rap/The Last Poets)
"Grant Phabao did it again! Killer stuff. French mashup master is in the place." (Manu Boubli/Comet Records)
Already supported by Erik Rug (Les Disques du Telegraphe/Radio FG), Loik Dury (Kraked/Paris DJs), Betino's Record Shop, Soul Stereo Sound System...
Review :
Forward thinking never ends with french cult producer Doctor L...
After an astonishing series of 4 new INCREDIBLE albums in less than 2 years on his new label Mind (check djouls.com), and a collectable series of limited 7 and 12 inches concluding with an amazing cover of Sly Stone's "Family Affair", with brooklyn nÃÂ1 afrobeateers Antibalas (!), the Doctor is back with a collection of goodies from various projects once again aggregated into "Forgotten Tracks From Da Hard Drive", a full-flowing concept-album of electronic acid grooves, slams and vibes. Extracted from this new album [exclusively for ParisDJs.com web galaxy!!] is "Kind Of Dry", featuring Spontane's MC Jester, a blast of punk slam soaked in pure Doctor L electronic-acid-orgasonics. Mackrosoft Records/T.I.M.E.C. MS0009R/TIMEC117/PARISDJS003, 2006-08-01

Info :
This track is not for music categories, but for recipe books : take elements from a US West coast jazz/funk lounge number [For example, "The Immortality Project" by Seattle's funkateers The Mackrosoft]. Select the 70's groovy melody of the Fender Rhodes and wah-wah guitar, of course. Cherish the sax licks from multiple-man Skerik. Don't forget the organ stylings from former Beastie Boys collaborator Money Mark. Then get the whole thing drenched into deep dub territory by expert in sound manipulation Grant Phabao. Don't get lost into deep Studio One or Rhythm & Sound dub but instead keep a nice electro jazz funky vibe flowing. You can now call it a "remix"... and start spreading the news!
DJ Guarana - Latino Fiesta In Paris
(12" virtual release/MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C. TIMEC058/PARISDJS002, 2006-07-27

Tracklisting:
A1. Dj Guarana & Gino Rossi - Latino Party!

Info :
Our second virtual release is a mix of samba and electronic grooves, with an undeniable measure of humor that revels in the duality of being both respectfully influenced by and satyrically critical of the Latin-meets-electronic music sound. The music in itself is a nice mix of Latin percussion and melodies, done up in a smooth, slightly French nu-jazz style.
