<itunes:summary>Loik Dury, from the Kraked label, former Radio Nova programmer, and Djouls, from the TIMEC label, have been assuming in Paris for a few years now an active role of incubators for many artists and Djs.

Disappointed by the formatting of the medias, they decided to launch this ParisDjs.com blog to spread their Podcast recorded with their crew of old veterans and young Parisian foxes.

So mixes, selections, histories of the music, battles, debates and legendary mix-tapes will flower each week in there. You will finally be able (re-)discover the true soulful spirit of the North-East Paris.</itunes:summary>

Loik - Afro Diggin'

Loik - Afro Diggin'

(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) Kraked, 2009-07-02

Africa is a wonderful song from Bob Pinodo, famous for bringing the gospel vibes to Ghana, a must in soulful breakbeat Afro vibes.

Osima - Waouh!! This is pure delight from Rex lawson, one of the fathers of Highlife, an instant classic to my ears, with amazing classy drumming and a haunting melody, this is a masterpiece no less!

Ise Owo is Apala Soul and I want more!! A dancefloor bomb from the master of nigerian saxophone, Orlando Julius.

You Are The One is a special crossover of Soul, Disco, Latin and Afrobeat with a strong statement. It could be an anthem on any afrogroovy dancefloor. Deep & catchy music from Tony Grey.

I fell in love with Show Me Your Love by the Opamanbuo International Band Of Ghana. With its haunting guitar licks and irresistible voice, it throws my blues away and makes me feel good. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do.

All those are really rare records coming straight from Africa, so clicks and background noise are numerous, even with all the love we gave them. But all those songs need to be rediscovered, and often vinyl is the only testimony left. So let's hope you'll enjoy the ride - and don't worry there are more to come... (Loik)
If you were a hip-hop emcee who can spit lightening fast rhymes, would you call yourself Sleep? One of the founding members of the Northwest hip-hop crew Oldominion, Sleep is a Mexican emcee with rapid flows, superb breath control, and introspective rhymes. His name was inspired by a line in a Nas song (I never sleep because sleep is the cousin of death). He's totally one for beat conoisseurs and lyric addicts.
Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2009-05-29

This Hypnotic Brass Ensemble blew my mind the first time I heard them. I had seen some videos on YouTube but was finally able to grab two copy of their War/Mercury 10 inch at a local record store (thank you to the kind people selling Jazz and World at Gibert Joseph in Paris!)... The spare one went into the hands of Pierre from Souljazz Orchestra who got to see them onstage a few days after, opening for Mos Def in Amsterdam. He told me they totally stole the show, which I'm sure they did! Listening to their rare self-released albums (on CDR you can buy at their shows) or concert that are circulating on the Internet (you gotta check the one with Tony Allen!) can only mean one thing: the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is currently one of the few killer live bands out there!! They'll be playing next Wednesday in Paris at the New Morning and we have 10 tickets to offer - be there or be square!

Paris DJs Soundsystem - Nearly Shadow

Paris DJs Soundsystem - Nearly Shadow
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2009-05-23

We've been cooking this mix for a long time, selecting its pieces slowly, one by one... The idea was to collect tracks that were obviously or not-so-obviously influenced by Dj Shadow's masterpiece and first album (on the defunct Mo' Wax label), Endtroducing. Some names spring to mind instantly, like Rjd2 (featured here), but we've tried to dig into many places, from the forgotten (DJ Bias of Lewis Parker fame, J-Walk who's second album will happen soon on Peacefrog, Manitoba now called Caribou), to the unknown in Europe (Mnemotrauma, Joe Beats from Non Prophets who's albums are just fantastic and who we had picked up for our This Is The New Hip Hop Thing CD compilation) and the bigger names (Gnarls Barkley). No Blockhead, no Wax Taylor, no DJ Cam, no UNKLE, no Diplo, no Aim... There surely are many other artists who've given props to that first Dj Shadow album and if you've got suggestions for a second volume don't hesitate to leave a comment!

Paris DJs Soundsystem - Who Is Molesting Laura ? (part 5)

Paris DJs Soundsystem - Who Is Molesting Laura ? (part 5)
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2009-05-06

This is not your usual Molesting Laura mix. Of course, it's all covers, some easy to recognize, some others not that obvious... That's because we've been specially digging in our vaults of American modern jazz. The kind of your never hear about over the Atlantic. The trip will take you from downtown New York (Medeski Martin and Wood) to New Orleans (Dirty Dozen Brass Band), from Brooklyn (Marco Benevento) to Tulsa (Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey), from San Diego (The Greyboy Allstars) to Bridgeport (Fuzz), back to Brooklyn (Soulive), and from Harlem (The Harlem Experiment) to San Francisco (Garaj Mahal)...

The Dirty Dozen Brass Band track is taken from their album produced by John Medeski, Buck Jump - New Orleans down home funky jazz at its best. The Marco Benevento one is from his 2009 album Me Not Me, an incredible set of covers done piano trio with sculpted sounds - with bassist Reed Mathis and drummers Matt Chamberlain and Andrew Barr, two of them being members of The Slip. Long-time readers will recognize them... Also, don't pass out on another piano trio, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, really mind-blowing. We've played a track from their latest album, Winterwood, which you can download for free on their site! Finally, this mix is an opportunity to talk about the Harlem Experiment album released on Ropeadope in 2007. It's just a monster album with the cream of NY uptown jazz musicians, fusing jazz, klezmer, salsa, soul, hip-hop and funk. One of the best new thing! we've heard this century.
We got this mix sent to us by Citizen Dale from Canada (our music is a secret order but knows no boundaries). Expect lots of Funk and Soul, with a few pieces of Latin and Jazz...
Loik - La Sono Mondiale Vol.1
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) Kraked, 2009-04-28

We couldn't call this 'World Music' cos' the term doesn't mean squatt. We thought it could be some kind of 'Oriental Flavour' thing but then what about the brazilian jazz track in there? Then we remembered Loik Dury used to do the programmation for Radio Nova in France for so many years, bringing to the scene what Jean-Francois Bizot had called 'La Sono Mondiale'. This mix is perfect example of that spirit. Rare groove with no limits whatsoever.
(MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2009-02-26

We had so much feedback and praise from our first animated movie starring vintage shots of Pam Grier in her prime, animation fused with real-time shooting, uncanny 3D special effects and the such that we decided to shoot a sequel. Here's the soundtrack to that new movie 21st Century Blaxploitation volume 2. Expect hip hop, psychedelic soul, latin grooves and, of course, wah wah funk! All those tracks are just HUGE.
Paris DJs Soundsystem - African Mashed Potato Popcorn Vol.9

Paris DJs Soundstem - African Mashed Potato Popcorn Vol.9
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2009-04-08

This mix concludes a series of 15 Afro mixes (9 'African Mashed Potato Popcorn' mixtures and 6 '21st Century Afro' cookings) showcasing the current worldwide African music scene and a few bits from its roots. We've already praised before the incredible work of labels such as Soundway or Analog Africa, which appear here again but hey, their compilations were simply the best of last year!! That said, you might want to expect a lot of surprises in the future, since we've sent to Nigeria and Benin some of our diggers to go and fetch the real rare things. That, and new productions with Oghene Kologbo (Fela's guitarist until 1978), Amayo (lead singer from Antibalas) and Tony Allen, among others... so stay tuned!

Tracklisting :
A high-octane selection of psychedelic covers, ranging from latin funk to free jazz, soul and mostly rock. The soulful heavy kind of rock you'd be expecting from us. Laura gets hit in the face. Props to Tobias Kirmayer and his Tramp and Perfect Toy labels too - this Boogoos single is so good we played both sides in our mixes - when is the album happening? Finally, props to Nick/Record Kicks - we haven't finished picking on this marvelous Trio Valore album yet...
