Grant Phabao & Djouls - Are Molesting Laura Vol.12
(MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2008-06-22

Info :
We hope you enjoyed the previous Molesting Laura mix of soul and funk reggae covers cos this one's in the same vein, with soul (a bit) & reggae (mostly) interpretations of songs by The Supremes, The Temptations, Barry White, The Bee Gees (!), Santana and a few selected others... Opening and closing this mix is our favorite UK soul singer Alice Russell, first covering The Supremes' My World Is Empty Without You with blue-eyed class, and then being remixed by our main man Grant Phabao, with the help of legendary Jamaican deejay The Lone Ranger adding some new lyrics in the mix. An incredible treat - don't miss the Lone Ranger with the Soul Stereo Soundsystem on June 27th at Les Nuits Zébrées (La Bellevilloise, Paris and on Radio Nova), and the following day opening for the Garance Reggae Festival at Le Zenith (Paris)!!

Info :
To cool things down a little bit after this crazy series of Molesting Laura mixes, we've cooked a wicked set of soul and funk reggae covers, which got us digging quite deep into our Jamaican funk compilations. Besides some smokin' takes on The Temptations, Lalo Schifrin, Dusty Springfield, The Meters, Stevie Wonder, William DeVaughn, Billy Paul or Syl Johnson, you might enjoy Grant Phabao's superb reggae remix of Alice Russell's cover of The White Stripes. [Also, be aware that a 4-tracker of Grant Phabao reggae remixes of Alice Russell songs, "Alice In Jamaica EP" is planned for 2008 on Brighton's Tru Thoughts label...]

Grant Phabao & Djouls - Are Molesting Laura Vol.8
(MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2008-01-02

Info :
We've prepared four new mixes in the "Molesting Laura" series, which, as you might already know, are be all about covers, mashups and classic tracks reworked in a brand new style, even though sometimes the series ventures towards a strange mixture of Latin music (but not for those mixes)... And if you're still guessing who this mysterious Laura is, let's just say that the owls are not what people think they are...

Served first is Grant Phabao & Djouls are Molesting Laura Vol.8, an incredible funk'n'disco mix of smashing covers and clobbering re-edits. Expect to dig memories of Matata, The Meters, Rage Against The Machine, Kool And The Gang, James Brown, The Beatles, Vanilla Fudge or even John Barry's theme from "Superman"... This is heavy dancefloor business for funk lovers, and we can only hope that our favorite incredible melting entertainment compagnons Grant Phabao & Djouls will keep on "Molesting Laura" for a long, long time.

You might then want to check Grant Phabao & Djouls are Molesting Laura Vol.9, an "All Directions In Jazz" dish of old and new reworks of soul, rock, pop, funk, house or even Ethiopian jazz. The covers range from Herbie Hancock, Eumir Deodato, The Cure, Outkast, Isolée, Mulatu Atsaké to Marvin Gaye, in classy jazz dressings. 30 minutes of jazz hit-singles eclectism for an intense and swinging trip - don't pass out on this!
[ONLINE NEXT MONDAY - JANUARY 7]

If you're not tired yet of all this craziness in music, you might then be the lucky listener of Grant Phabao & Djouls are Molesting Laura Vol.10, a really "out there" combination of soul, ska, funk, balakanese beats, swing, hip hop, rock and pop; with covers of Dusty Springfield, Herbie Hancock (again), Kylie Minogue, Outkast (again, too!), The Cure (again, also!), Van Morrison or Johnny Pate, but also some strange mashups of Peggy Lee and Iggy Pop, and of The Flaming Lips and Marvin Gaye. This has got to be heard to be believed!
[ONLINE THE SATURDAY AFTER - JANUARY 12]

Finally, to cool things down a little bit, we've cooked a wicked set of soul and funk reggae covers, Grant Phabao & Djouls are Molesting Laura Vol.11, which got us digging quite deep into our Jamaican funk compilations, albums and singles, for some smokin' takes on The Temptations, The White Stripes, Lalo Schifrin, Dusty Springfield, The Meters, Stevie Wonder, William DeVaughn, Billy Paul or Syl Johnson.

Grant Phabao & Djouls - Are Molesting Laura Vol.7
(MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2007-05-16

Info :
Sorry for the hectic updates, and don't worry, many special mixes are scheduled for the upcoming summer... starting with this 7th volume of the "Molesting Laura" series.
Those following the story from the beginning might have understood by now that when T.I.M.E.C. honchos Grant Phabao and Djouls are "Molesting Laura", it can mean EITHER that they're going into a latin music frenzy, OR that they're plunging into the deep world of covers, bootlegs, parodies and rare remixes... That's the case here, with an EXCLUSIVE bootie of Cee-Lo's "The One" (of Gnarls Barkley fame - check our Cee-Lo mix) acapella over a Grant Phabao instrumental. This has been sent to us through the p2p from the Booty Smash Soundsystem, who wish to keep their identity under wraps... We've also took the liberty of playing the Ty remix our dubmeister did last year, which was only available here for 24h! Don't say thank you yet, cos' you'll also get some tasty covers of the Stranglers, Marvin Gaye, the Jackson 5, George Harrison, the Strokes and many more... (ok now you can say "Hoorray!")
