What is the true mark of the wayward genius of Wiley? Is it that, less than six months after the release of his last full album, 100% Publishing, he has another record all set for release? Is it that he has insisted that it is released on his birthday, Thursday January 19th 2012? Or that he initially refused to release a single from it? That he has made so much music that his fans will receive two CDs, the second with at least eight further tracks on it? Or even that one track on the album has no music (Customs)? No, it's not any of these. It's that we can say, without fear of contradiction (or without much fear), that Evolve Or Be Extinct is the best album (so far!) of this unique artist's career. Dark, funny, wild and exhilarating, this is a record which shows just what Wiley is capable of when he forgets the minutiae of recording contracts and concentrates on the many weird and wonderful facets of his life…

Wiley builds up to the birthday release of his new album, Evolve Or Be Extinct, with the club smasher Boom Blast. Produced by Most Wanted Mega, Boom Blast sees Wiley spitting pure party lyrics over a low-slung, bass-led groove. WIth enough vocal hooks to keep an angler in fish for a decade, this is perhaps the most immediate tune from the Godfather of Grime™ since Rolex, three minutes thirty of energy and good humour. Leaked by the artist to select DJs, it's already had plays from Mister Jam and Zane Lowe, with many more to follow. The package is completed by two excellent remixes. Herner Werzog takes the tune into housier territory, giving things a distinctly cartoonish feel, whereas Sticky hardens up the funk and gives Wiley the disco work-out of his life. Wiley's loyal soldier Alex D comes with the crunch-funk in a superb electronic reinterpretation. Evolve Or Be Extinct is perhaps WIley's most complete album to date, showing many facets of his fascinating and at times contradictory character. It will be released on Thursday January 19th because that s Wiley's birthday and that's what he wanted. Go figure.

One of the many wonders of Wiley is how he manages to make so much music whilst pursuing an equally hectic social life. Link Up goes some way to explaining; he just can't resist making new links. The song is the second single from his new album for Big Dada Recordings, 100% Publishing, (we'd tell you when, but we might make ourselves look silly, so we won't.) The perfect summer song, its minimal, bass-and-stabs production come courtesy of Nana Rogues. Wiley rides the beat in inimitable, razor-sharp style, humorously outlining the intricacies of spending time in female company. Lighthearted, bright and infectious, it shows a side of Wiley we maybe don't see enough of. Not unless you happen to be a link, that is.

Big Dada are very pleased to confirm that we'll be releasing another album by the brilliant, mercurial Wiley. The title, 100% Publishing, was chosen to reflect the fact that for the first time ever, the album is produced and vocalled entirely by Wiley himself. The result is his masterpiece; the freewheeling, uncompromising body of work he's always strived to create. By turns ebullient, reflective and fiery, the lyrics are always masterful, and represent the most cohesively themed Wiley album to date. The first single, Numbers in Action, sees Wiley moving the grime template forward once again, refreshing the genre with an entirely new take. Remixes come from Sticky and Toddla T, and the single is released May 16th. The full album follows on July 4th.

For the first time in his hyperactive career, Wiley returns to a label and the results are dynamite. Numbers In Action sees one of the UK's greatest producers and MCs doing what he does best - hooking up a minimalist masterpiece of a beat and then spitting his bars over it with the insouciance and sheer top-of-the-dome randomness and magnificence which only this most maverick of artists can muster. Assured and brilliant, Numbers.. sounds like the Godfather of Grime making Old Skool Hip Hop for all tomorrow's parties. And it's funny, too. Remix duties are led out by Sticky, who Wiley simple describes as "the don". Sticky takes the swing of the original rhythm and builds rising keyboard lines on top in an oblique nod to 99 Problems. Toddska (Toddla T and Roska) break everything down into their constiuent parts and plot out the line between Baltimore House and Sheffield Bleep. Grime up ‘n' comer Z Dot, on the other hand, takes the tune back to its roots in the music Wiley pioneered. The album 100% Publishing is out 4th July.
