Toddla T - Streets So Warm - out on Ninja Tune

Toddla T Streets So Warm
Toddla T - Streets So Warm
(Digital Single) Ninja Tune ZENDNLS300, 2011-10-17

Fresh from the release of his acclaimed second album Watch Me Dance, Toddla T re-visits the sounds of Jamaica for his follow-up single Streets So Warm. For the track Toddla enlisted Kingston local Wayne Marshall to provide vocals for his dancehall tinged production. The single is the third to be taken from the acclaimed album, it is a timely reminder of his raw production talent given that getting his second album out there has not been particularly an easy path for Toddla T and all those involved. Firstly, the LP was leaked months before release, followed by the finished stock being destroyed in the PIAS warehouse fire during the London riots, delaying it's availability by a week. Remixes for Streets So Warm come from Zed Bias, Serial Killaz and Ross Orton & Pipes.

(12"/Download) Ninja Tune ZEN12286/ZENDNLS286, 2011-08-08

As Toddla T prepares to release his second artist album of the same name, Watch Me Dance, is the follow up single to the brilliant Take It Back feat. Shola Ama. This release does not simply feature Roots Manuva on vocals but is more a collaboration between the two producers. In fact, it was Rodney's original demo that inspired Toddla to mould it into this very version for his album, naturally with Rodney's stamp of approval. Continuing work on the demo resulted in Rodney's own version which will also appear as track two on the single package along with a wealth of remixes including one from Sebastian and the legend that is Andrew Weatherall. The Roots Manuva version will also feature on his fifth studio album, 4everevolution later in the year. This unique release displays the different interpretations borne from the same demo and displays the mutual appreciation between these two highly respected and innovative UK artists. Toddla T's new album Watch Me Dance is released on August 22.

Wiley - Numbers In Action - out on Big Dada

wiley Numbers In Action
Wiley - Numbers In Action
(12"/Download) Big Dada BD181/BDDNL181, 2011-05-16

For the first time in his hyperactive career, Wiley returns to a label and the results are dynamite. Numbers In Action sees one of the UK's greatest producers and MCs doing what he does best - hooking up a minimalist masterpiece of a beat and then spitting his bars over it with the insouciance and sheer top-of-the-dome randomness and magnificence which only this most maverick of artists can muster. Assured and brilliant, Numbers.. sounds like the Godfather of Grime making Old Skool Hip Hop for all tomorrow's parties. And it's funny, too. Remix duties are led out by Sticky, who Wiley simple describes as "the don". Sticky takes the swing of the original rhythm and builds rising keyboard lines on top in an oblique nod to 99 Problems. Toddska (Toddla T and Roska) break everything down into their constiuent parts and plot out the line between Baltimore House and Sheffield Bleep. Grime up ‘n' comer Z Dot, on the other hand, takes the tune back to its roots in the music Wiley pioneered. The album 100% Publishing is out 4th July.
