Calvin Weston, Joe Russo, John Ellis, Jonas Hellborg, Kaki King, Marc Friedman, Reed Mathis, Skerik, Stanton Moore and Steven Bernstein. More than just a project about Marco, it captures a scene of artists and musicians who are clearly some of our generation's giants.

A quick update to tell you about upcoming Marco Benevento dates in June and July. For our friends and lovers in New York City, Marco has a rare solo piano performance at 's intimate downtown music space, The Stone, this Thursday, June 11 (8PM). Just nine days later, on Saturday, June 20 (8PM), the Marco Benevento Trio (w/ Reed Mathis & Andrew Barr from The Slip) are on the bill with Jaime Cullum at the mother of all NYC music venues, Carnegie Hall. Needless to say, these are going to be two very special hometown shows!

Marco Benevento - Me Not Me

Marco Benevento returns with Me Not Me, a new studio album featuring interpretations of songs by artists including My Morning Jacket, Leonard Cohen and Deerhoof among others. The ten-track collection arrives within a year from release of Benevento's critically acclaimed debut studio effort, Invisible Baby. Like its predecessor, Benevento is joined on the sessions by bassist Reed Mathis and drummers Matt Chamberlain and Andrew Barr. The band recorded at Chroma Sound in Seattle during days off on a West Coast tour earlier this year. Engineer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Antony & The Johnsons, Phish) mixed the sessions in Brooklyn. Of further note, Benevento takes a giant step into the 21st century with the formation of his own label, The Royal Potato Family (distributed by MRI/Red), for the worldwide release of Me Not Me.

2 albums par an au minimum, ça fait un bon rythme pour un groupe de jazz, si adopté par la scène jam bands soit-il. Enfin groupe de jazz... il y a aussi des chansons dans The Slip. En témoigne un double CD magique, sorti par les activistes de Kufala (c'est un double CD-R en fait, il ne s'agit pas de faire de la marge sur du plastic mais de faire en sorte que la musique circule), enregistré le 12 juin dernier (2004) dans la ville natale du trio, Providence. Le show est d'ailleurs globalement assez mélancolique, avec une majorité de grooves bien deep et de mélodies douces.
Fluide et organique, le concert est proposé dans son intégralité et on le conseillera largement face au double CD sorti par Instant Live ("The Paradise, Boston, MA 10/2/04") dont le son ne serait pas top d'après les posts sur les forums...
