Take It Back is the latest single to be taken from The Qemist's sophomore album Spirit In The System, and sees the Brighton-based trio join forces with fellow dance/rock music hybridisers Enter Shikari, with cataclysmic results. The end of 2010 maintained momentum for both bands with Enter Shikari going straight to Number One in the UK rock charts with their single Destablize, while the dubstep VIP of The Qemists' Renegade was battered by many of the world's primary dubstep DJs. After The Qemists supported Enter Shikari on their 2009 European tour, the union of the two bands in the studio was a natural development, with both sharing a vision of fusing bass-heavy dance music with rock. Take It Back is the result of their first collaboration. With an incredible post-apocalyptic, dystopian video to accompany the track, and the backing of a remix from current D&B darlings The Prototypes, alongside a VIP version of Take It Back and dubstep floor-slayer Dirty Words, The Qemists are kicking of 2011 with frightening intent ahead off a world-wide tour that will take the trio's unique sound everywhere from Japan to Finland, Eastern Europe and, of course, the UK.

After the genre-smashing, rock-infused masterpiece that was Spirit In The System, the ultimate filthy dance act return to their electronic roots, and deliver a mix album to crush all mix albums. Comprised of original, exclusive tracks (including 'Be Electric', 'The Demand' and 'Lifeline'), highly sought-after remixes (think Riskotheque, Reso and Spor to name a few), and the Qemists trademark VIPs, this forty minute seamless mix is everything you would expect from producers who are as much at home in the DJ booth as they are behind their instruments live on stage. You also might spot a few guest vocals in there, including Grime superstar Wiley, and D'n'B Legend Jenna G. The only problem that remains is choosing which of these two exceptional albums to listen to first...

The Qemists - Renegade - out on Ninja Tune

The Qemists Renegade
The Qemists - Renegade
(Download) Ninja Tune ZENDNLS274, 2010-08-31

Renegade - the second single taken from The Qemists' forthcoming album Spirit In The System - is a furious blend of dubstep and grime that's packed with The Qemists' signature energetic sound. Providing the vocals are East London's hottest grime artist - 1Xtra's homegrown hero, Maxsta - alongside MC ID, one of the drum & bass scene's most respected MCs who regularly graces the stage alongside the likes of Pendulum, Chase & Status and Sub Focus, to name but a few. Wrapping the two together with impeccable production, what you're handed is a frantic vocal exchange as both artists battle at breakneck pace while The Qemists' powerful beats and driving basslines create an intense and irresistible atmosphere. The result is a blistering tune that showcases a fresh dimension to The Qemists' sound, treading new musical territory while retaining all of their infamously heavy vigor. To fatten up the package further drum & bass legends J Majik & Wickaman deliver an intense bass-heavy rework that will smash up any dancefloor the DJs unleash it upon, The Qemists' turn in their own incredible VIP version which pushes Renegade to an inevitable and ugly dubstep conclusion with tear-out bass and grinding synths, and finally Cutline complete the mix with a euphoric concoction of psychotic synths, pounding beats and juxtaposed chorus build ups.

Regular collaborator and tour-mate Jenna G returns to the Qemists fold for Hurt Less, the second single to be taken from their sophomore full-length Spirit In The System, and one of the album's emotional peaks. Jenna's powerful, vulnerable vocal makes a perfect fit for The Qemists' original track, high on dynamics and drama, and with a nagging melancholic melody. The single also comes with three new remixes: 2-Step/Garage producers Hot City (recently signed to Moshi Moshi) deliver an elegantly itchy mix, legendary Tech-House duo My Digital Enemy transform the track into a shuddering Dance-Floor epic, while Brighton-based Dubstep producer Riskotheque slows the tempo and increases the tempo, with a recut that'll shake the picture-frames from your walls and wake the dead.

(promo CD/12"/Download) Ninja Tune ZENCDS239P/ZEN12239/ZENDNLS239, 2009-09-07

After their Radio 1 playlisted single, On The Run, The Qemists return with S.W.A.G. a big, biiiiig tune about getting away with it. Featuring the vocals of sometime Alabama 3 frontwoman Zoe Devlin-Love, S.W.A.G. is one of the most rocking moments from The Qems' widely acclaimed debut album, Join The Q, currently at number 1 on the Japanese electronic charts. Devlin-Love had been hanging out with Great Trainrobber Bruce Reynolds prior to recording and some of his attitude runs through her lyrics. The Qemists, meanwhile, more clearly a band here than studio producers, lay down ultra-heavy riffs with evident relish. HAVEN'T HEARD THIS SINGLE. HAVEN'T MANAGE TO GET IT. IS IT GOOD? WHO KNOWS??
