Grant Phabao & Djouls - 21st Century Blaxploitation Vol.2

Grant Phabao & Djouls - 21st Century Blaxploitation Vol.2 (MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2009-02-26 We had so much feedback and praise from our first animated movie starring vintage shots of Pam Grier in her prime, animation fused with real-time shooting, uncanny 3D special effects and the such that we decided to shoot a sequel. Here's the soundtrack to that new movie 21st Century Blaxploitation volume 2. Expect hip hop, psychedelic soul, latin grooves and, of course, wah wah funk! All those tracks are just HUGE. Repeated play is advised. [comment faire?/how to?] Tracklisting :...

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble - Alyo / Flipside

Alyo Flipside
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble - Alyo / Flipside
(10") Honest Jon's Records HJP047, 2009-04-20

Written by Philip Cohran in memory of Alyo Tolbert, star dancer for the Montu Dance Company in Chicago, Alyo is the hardest, funkiest track from the imminent album (with Malcolm Catto from The Heliocentrics on drums); and in memory of the band's friend and rabblerouser, Flipside wobbles and woozes, tippy-toes and pirouettes, with Mingus in its bones.

Mulatu Astatke & The Heliocentrics - Inspiration Information Volume 3
(CD) Strut Records, 2009-04-14

The collaboration follows a sell-out gig at Cargo and a Gilles Peterson Maida Vale session earlier this year with The Heliocentrics (Stones Throw Records). Responsible for backing DJ Shadow, laying down beats for Madlib and Yesterday's New Quintet and for fusing influences as diverse as Sun Ra, Axelrod, James Brown and Morricone on their debut album, the Helios, led by drummer Malcolm Catto and bassist Jake Ferguson, have fast become a unique powerhouse of free-thinking beatsmithery. At Cargo in London, they backed Mulatu on a full set of his Ethiopiques classics, brought together and presented by Karen P's Broadcasting and Red Bull. Since then, the process around the new recordings has been in full flow with Mulatu now back in Addis Ababa armed with a Heliocentrics CD of groove ideas and riffs.
