The Heavy - How You Like Me Now? EP
(CD/10"/Download) Counter Records COUNTCD038/COUNT038/COUNTDNL038, 2009-11-29

The Heavy will be releasing the new How You Like Me Now? EP digitally on October 19th via Counter /+1 Records, with vinyl and CD's available on their current fall tour dates. It includes two previously unreleased songs, as well as new versions of some of their most popular songs, including the smash hit title track that features the Dap-Kings Horns (who were recent tour mates when the band opened for Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings earlier this year). The Heavy recently proved that there is indeed no rest for the weary when they announced that they would return to North America in October and November for another mind-blowing run of shows, a handful of which are with Mayer Hawthorne (Stones Throw), and the rest which they will be headlining themselves. The tour is now underway, including shows at The Bowery Ballroom and The Music Hall of Williamsburg the past two nights.

The Heavy - No Time

The Heavy No Time
The Heavy - No Time
(Download) Counter Records COUNTDNL032, 2009-11-23

The latest single form the superb album, The House That Dirt Built is the hard-rocking No Time. Built from a truly monstrous drum break, horn fanfares and Zepp-gauge riffage, The Heavy build the perfect backdrop on which Swaby can holla and testify. About "losing the love that made you feel whole," the tune is such an ecstatic assault on the senses that, it has to be said, breaking up, has never sounded so good. So good, in fact, that PlayStation are using the track in their adverts for their Champions League adverts. What's better after a break up, after all, than football and computer games?!

(2xLP/CD limited edition/Download/CD) Counter Records COUNT028/COUNTCD028X/COUNTDNL028/COUNTCD028, 2009-10-05

Mixed and produced by Jim Abiss (best known for his work on the first Arctic Monkeys, Adele and Kasabian) and with Noisettes input on three tracks (The Heavy toured with them and have all became firm friends), The House That Dirt Built represents a huge step forward from an already fantastic debut in Great Vengeance & Furious Fire. Since then The Heavy have toured the world and, where the first record was sample-based, the new one is much more a product of working as a band. Like the early rock ‘n' roll, blues and rhythm and blues which have influenced it, The House That Dirt Built is larger than life, funny, terrifying and occasionally beautiful. It is, in fact, a house you'll want to visit again.

Various - Strike! - A Counter Records Sampler

Various - STRIKE! - A Counter Records Sampler
(CD/Download) Counter Records COUNTCD030/COUNDNL030, 2009-10-05

Back in 2006 the good people of Ninja Tune decided they wanted to start a rock label. But not any old, boring, run-of-the-mill rock label. Not a rock label pumping out the latest British indie four piece bands, or carefully crafted facsimiles of classic rawk. Not a label peopled by ironic Hoxtonites playing pisstakes of AC/DC. Not a rock label licensing in already-successful US acts and re-packaging them for the UK market. A rock label that took the same irreverent, iconoclastic, vaguely psychedelic attitude towards that type of music as the parent label had taken to various aspects of dance music. The results of this project are just now beginning to reach fruition and what better way to celebrate (and introduce listeners to a rapidly expanding roster) than with a "Pay-No-More-Than-£2.99" sampler showcasing some of the finest moments from the misfits, freaks and visionaries shaping the label's sound?

The Heavy How Do You Like Me Now

(CDS/Digital) Counter Records COUNT026/COUNTDNL026, 2009-09-13

The Heavy return with next single from their forthcoming album, The House That Dirt Built, a widescreen funk epic, moving from JB's shuffle to crashing break, Animals guitar and horn fanfares, a huge build which is set to bring the house down wherever it’s played. As if the original wasn’t enough, The Heavy have compiled a superb package of remixes. Fellow West Countryman Joker, gives the original a huge dollop of Purple and comes up with something sounding like Timberlake smoking skunk in St Pauls. Sometime Mowgli-collaborator Solo goes more down a 4/4 route, building up the congas etc into a perfect example of what he calls "midget house". Finally, Ghost takes the tempo down and emphasises the mournful backing vocals for a suitably majestic finale. As if this wasn’t enough, The Heavy have also thrown in a bonus track, Tell It Like It Is, a country-fried hoe-down which emphasises just how good Swaby’s voice is.

The Heavy - Sixteen

The Heavy Sixteen
The Heavy - Sixteen
(Digital) Counter Records COUNTDNL027, 2009-07-13

The Heavy follow up the garage-band madness of Oh No! Not You Again! with pure vintage voodoo soul . Sixteen asks the question: how much can you learn in sixteen years? The answer is, a hell of a lot, but none of it good. The story of a girl who wants to grow up too fast, taking in dancing with the devil, nightclubbing, drinking and piping on the magic whistle.

The Heavy - Oh No! Not You Again!
(Digital) Counter Records COUNTDNL025, 2009-05-11

The first single to be released from The Heavy's new album, "The House That Dirt Built", is a garage-punk/soul-blues offering of so much power and urgency that the likes of Bunker Hill and Syl Johnson will wonder why the two genres don't get freaky with one another more often.

(7"/12"/Digital) Ninja Tune ZEN12225/ZEN7225, 2008-11-24

Check the Pixies-styled The Death Set pop-grunge cover of "For Withered Friends" - really surprising! Also worthy are the Kipsy remix of "Touchstone", electro-R'n'B going crazy, and the Thavius Beck heavily psyched-up remix of the same track.
