The Greg Foat Group - Sci-Fi Bugalu Mix

The Greg Foat Group - Sci-Fi Bugalu Mix (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2011-09-31 In the interview we've just published, British pianist Greg Foat explains he's also DJing in great cities around the world, so we've thought he would be very natural contributor DJ to our great mix series. And indeed he's dug in his fine vinyl collection to cook an exclusive mix he introduces like this:"The Sci-Fi Bugalu Mix is basically a fun party mix with a touch of sci-fi weirdness. There's a lot of classic soul jazz tracks, a couple of deep funk and crossover tracks, a bit of westcoast and some...

The Greg Foat Group
(Interview by Nicolas Ragonneau, for Paris DJs - september 2011)

This spring Jazzman Records unveiled a new sensation with The Greg Foat Group's Dark Is The Sun, a fantastic jazz/soundtrack first album. The Greg Foat Group - Dark Is The Sun - out on Jazzman Records

The Greg Foat Group - Dark Is The Sun
(CD/LP/Digital) Jazzman Records, 2011-05-20

After the discovery of The Natural Yogurt Band, Jazzman Records have found another amazing contemporary Psych-Groove band and have released another essential record! Recorded in Sweden, Dark is the Sun is a concept album based on themes and variations by British pianist/composer/arranger Greg Foat, who has created an intriguing blend of non-contemporary jazz sounds with classic scoring techniques. An exotic array of unorthodox instrumentation was utilized, including harpsichord, tubular bells and a 15 piece choir. With musical reference and influence from such luminaries as Bruno Nicolai, Michel Legrand and Serge Gainsbourg as well as a firm nod towards UK jazzmen Michael Garrick, Keith Mansfield and Alan Hawkshaw, the result is highly-listenable, enduring and fulfilling for those who like real music played with real instruments. We didn't get any promo of this album and the reasons we're announcing its release (from May 2011) today are simple: the album is a must-have… and we'll publish next week an exclusive Greg Foat Sci-Fi Bugalu Mix along with a very interesting interview!!
