Here's nearly 20% of all those new cool afro grooves from all over the world, with an exclusive new track from the Grant Phabao Afrobeat Arkestra, friendly vibes from Afrolicious, Karl Hector, Les Frères Smith (mixed by Phabao!), or Kiala, more friendly vibes sent by our label collegues from Record Kicks, Tramp Records, Jazz&Milk, Enlace Funk, Kindred Spirits or Kept Records and a few things we grabbed here and there. 21st Century Afrobeat,...

Various - Contemporary Afro Beat: A Fine Selection Of Some Of Today's Most Exciting Afro Beat Bands From All Over The World
(CD/LP/Digital) Tramp Records TRLP/CD-9010, 2011-02-14
This, the third volume in the Contemporary... series is indeed very special as it is simultaneously the tenth album released on Tramp Records. Afro Beat, the original hybrid of Jazz, Funk and West African highlife created by Fela Ransome-Kuti and Tony Allen in the late 1960s, is everything else than dead in 2011: Open your mind and ears and enjoy the exciting sounds of Odu, Afromotive, Jojo Quo & his Challengers and all the others. Fela declared his music "the progressive music of the future". Well, the future has come. This is Contemporary Afro Beat.

Various - Jazz & Milk Breaks Vol. 3
(12"/Digital) Jazz & Milk JM010, 2009-06-26
Jazz & Milk enters the third round with their highly successful Jazz & Milk Breaks series. Six individual tracks with various influences ranging from Jazz, Funk, Latin to Afro and percussive Beats have already attracted a lot of attention on the Munich Jazz & Milk dance floors and finally made their way onto this versatile vinyl release. The records starts off with Innocent Sorcerers' very own Envee who has turned Pinnawela's tune You Can Dance into a wonderful and swinging jazz dance anthem. The track is followed by percussion maestro César Granados. His unique and vintage version of Dizzie Gillespie's latin-jazz classic Manteca is a true dance floor filler. The Snip's double bass driven downtempo bomb El Boom rounds off side A! On the flipside The Jivers, a new production duo out of Barcelona present a clubby jazz-hit called Do What featuring the unique voice of Anqui. Label head Dusty also joins the compilation with the remix of The Boogoos' afro-funk track The Journey / Ghana '74. Finally Greenwood Rhythm Coalition from New York's great Names You Can Trust imprint deliver a brilliant DJ bomb called Cotonou Caravan.

A Fine Selection Of Some Of Todays Grooviest Funk & Soul Bands From All Over The World
(CD/LP/Digital) Tramp Records TRCD9005, 2009-05-04
Contemporary Funk assembles bands which hearts beat for the original, raw soul sound they want to keep alive in its original form. The Sugarman 3, whose former musicians are now members of the famous Dap- Kings (of Sharon Jones fame) are included just as Will Holland (Quantic Soul Orchestra). Also Finland's No.1 funk band, The Soul Investigators (of Nicole Willis fame) are to be found within some more heavy acts. However, the aim was to focus on new bands on the scene such as DeRobert & the Half-Truths, The Funk Revolution or the Ben Martin Trio, to name a few. Original funk music lives on in the 21rst century - and Contemporary Funk is a great proof for that.
