There's a particularity to our Bag of Goodies mixes this year. The selection is only made up of records and music either sent to us by labels and artists, or which we actually bought in record stores in the recent weeks. It'll be hard for us to be more supportive and current than that. We usually gather for a listening session with a few of our favorite new tracks in the bag, and try to hit the decks instantly in order for the mix to be spontaneous. The Baker Brothers are back with Time To Testify, their first studio album since their covers project, Avid Sounds. So how does this latest project shape up? Well, from the opening instrumental, Statement of Intent, you get the feeling that this album is going to be slightly edgier than both Avid Sounds and its predecessor, Transition Transmission. Their sound has developed considerably since their debut album filled with edgy, hard hitting funk instrumentals. Subsequent releases have seen the band introduce vocals, initially from guests, and more recently performing vocal duties themselves, and the sound had gradually evolved, with soul and AOR influences creeping in to their song-writing. The line up has also changed, with one of the brothers leaving the original trio and the overall line-up being expanded to five members. With its fifteen tracks including a mix of songs, instrumentals, rock, funk and soul stylings, Time To Testify is an altogether solid album, and possibly their strongest release since Baker's Dozen.

The Baker Brothers are back in town & have just released their 6th album entitled ‘AVID SOUND’ in Japan and are preparing for a UK onslaught this summer, releasing on UK funk/soul label Freestyle in June. Avid Sounds is a covers album that pays tribute to many of the bands/tunes that have fulled their funk passion from way back. The album includes b-boy classics to disco rockers and is sure to blow the roof off any sweaty funk den.
All Baker Brothers releases so far have been like hell to find. I managed to grad the second and third albums In With the Out-Crowd and Bakers Dozen , but never saw the latest one Transition Transmission. Thankfully this new album will be available in Europe thanks to the ever-growing Freestyle Records on Sept, 7th!
