Blockhead returns with more of that uplifting melancholy on the aptly titled “Sunday Séance”. Possibly the standout track from his superb, critically-acclaimed debut album “Music By Cavelight”, “Sunday Séance” is a huge mash of harmonica, pitched up vocal wailing and the chunkiest break this side of a Yorkie Bar (for which metaphor I apologise, but I was brought up in the seventies). For added value, though, look no further than Liverpudlian duo Loka, who reimagine the original as a flurry of drums and gorgeous stringiness, once again confirming Ninja HQ’s prediction that they are most definitely Ones To Watch.

Info :
En attendant le premier album prévu à l'origine pour début 2004, un track du duo Loka est d'abord apparu sur la compilation "Xen Cuts" ("My Life's In These Bottles"), puis un maxi 3 titres est sorti cet été (2003), avec en ouverture un "Beginninless" naviguant dans un univers downtempo jazz très cinématographique, catégorie Ennio-dramatique, qui prouve une fois de plus que Ninja Tune est LE label de jazz du vingt-et-unième siècle. La suite du single appuie encore plus cet argument avec un "Airfling" entre blaxploitation et improvisation jazz de la fin des années 60, et en face B un "Safe Self Tester" qui démarre façon trip hop classique, avec ses peintures de violons, avant de s'envoler dans un psychédélisme Coltranien. Pour ceux qui auront raté ce merveilleux EP, rassurez-vous, on retrouvera ces 3 titres sur l'album à paraître aux dernières nouvelles en Avril 2006...
