Galactic - Carnivale Electricos - out on Anti- Records

Galactic Carnivale Electricos
Galactic - Carnivale Electricos
(CD/LP/Digital) ANTI-, 2012-02-21

Two years ago we left Galactic with Ya-Ka-May, their heaviest album to date, followed by a long, successful tour. The band did cameos in HBO show TREME and composed a few tracks for PS3 video game Infamous 2 (located in New Orleans, naturellement). Stanton Moore released a record with his trio and another mighty one with Garage à Trois, among other things. Ben Ellman helped Trombone Shorty launch his career with Orleans Avenue, producing his two first records on Verve. So with everyone so busy, a new album this quickly was the last thing we expected. We were wrong. Galactic is now 18 years-old, and it's a strong and creative teenager who can't help partying all night away while Western world - at least its financial and capitalistic side - teeters on the brink. Here comes the brand-new album Carnivale Electricos, to be released on Mardi Gras 2012...

Garage à Trois - Always Be Happy But Stay Evil - out on The Royal Potato Family

Garage A Trois Always Be Happy But Stay Evil
Garage à Trois - Always Be Happy But Stay Evil
Featuring Skerik, Stanton Moore, Marco Benevento & Mike Dillon
(CD/LP/Download) The Royal Potato Family RPF 1104, 2011-04-11 (CD/Download) 2011-05-02 (Vinyl)

Garage A Trois was recently described by noted photographer John Margaretten as, "A transformative, punkalectic, pornographic seizure of sight and sound." Few descriptions have ever so perfectly encapsulated the modern day post-rock/freak-jazz super group. A force greater than the sum of its colossal parts, Garage A Trois features Seattle-based saxophonics master Skerik, Brooklyn-based sound-sculptor/keysman Marco Benevento, punk rock vibraphone hero Mike Dillon and New Orleans funky drummer/beat master Stanton Moore. After the success of the quartet's 2009 release, Power Patriot (also the band's debut with Benevento replacing original member Charlie Hunter), Garage A Trois headed to Studio In The Country in Bogalusa, LA (where masterpieces by The Neville Brothers, Stevie Wonder and The Wild Magnolias have been cut) to record with revered engineer/producer Randall Dunn (The Cave Singers, Sun City Girls and Black Mountain). As has become the band's primary focus in its current incarnation, a laser sharp focus was paid to capturing Garage A Trois' sinewy, fourth-dimensional, polychromatic instrumental songwriting. The resulting album, Always Be Happy, But Stay Evil, delivers from track to track exactly as its title boasts.

Interview of Stanton Moore (english version)

Stanton Moore
Stanton Moore - Drums, foie gras & Pinot noir
(Interview by Nicolas Ragonneau, for Paris DJs - early 2011)

One of the greatest and most powerful drummers is a tireless man. Not only is he drumming for Galactic, the hottest New Orleans band, but he also finds time to run side projects with his trio, jazz-psych-punk-progressive
band Garage à Trois or Midnite Disturbers - to name just a few.
He’s also played for young Diane Birch, Joss Stone or timeless Doctors legends Dr. John and Dr. Lonnie Smith, not to mention his collaborations for drums magazines… We’ve added one more job in his demented schedule with this interview.
So… thanks, Stanton.

Marco Benevento - Between The Needles And Nightfall
(CD) The Royal Potato Family, 2010-05-11

Back with his third full length studio album in as many years, Brooklyn-based pianist and sound sculptor Marco Benevento delivers Between The Needles & Nightfall on May 11 via his label Royal Potato Family. With the release of this album Marco Benevento continues to define himself as one of the most prolific new voices of his era, blurring genres from song to song, and more often from measure to measure, with his own take on simple pop pleasures, dance party rave-ups and art jazz experimentation. He speaks in modern sonic tongues, all cut-and-pasted, tweaked-out and glitchy, but full of wide-eyed wonder that rejoices in the limitless horizons of sound and melody.

Garage A Trois - Power Patriot

Garage A Trois Power Patriot
Garage A Trois - Power Patriot
featuring Skerik, Mike Dillon, Marco Benevento & Stanton Moore
(Digipack CD) The Royal Potato Family, 2009-10-27

Garage A Trois is a collaboration between four of the most visionary improvisers of the time: Skerik on saxophones, Mike Dillon on vibes, Marco Benevento on keys and Stanton Moore on drums. And while improvisation is at the heart of what the quartet has staked its reputation upon at their legendary New Orleans Jazzfest sets and rare, but in demand, club tours, it's the intricate sonic tapestries, tightly orchestrated arrangements, refined melodies and positively modern approach to instrumental songwriting that's at the heart of their new long-player, Power Patriot.
