Shawn Lee's Incredible Tabla Band - Tabla Rock - out on Ubiquity Records

Tabla Rock Shawn Lee Incredible Tabla Band
Shawn Lee's Incredible Tabla Band - Tabla Rock
(CD/LP/Digital) Ubiquity Records UR293, 2012-01-17

Tabla Rock is a new and epic episode in Shawn Lee's mental saga. Do we have to mention that this album is his third release in six months? Further to his Hits the Hits series, the unpredictable funkateer covers Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band's Bongo Rock in its entirety - plus two more tracks of the band's second album. And he goes berserk one more time, for he does this cult-record in an Indian fun(ky) style, with incredible tabla taking the place of bongo (thanks to Prithpal Rajput aka 'Cyber' of the Asian Dub Foundation) and heavy keys (thanks to Style Council keyboard-man Mick Talbot on Apache). DIY-man Shawn Lee plays all the other instruments as usual, truly everything from drums, percussions, bass, sitar, tampura, to guitars, Indian banjo, etc., producing an unbelievably faifhtful rendition of the original. Adrian Younge presents Something About April performed by Venice Dawn - out on Wax Poetics Records

Adrian Younge presents Something About April performed by Venice Dawn
Adrian Younge presents - Something About April - performed by Venice Dawn
(CD/LP/Digital) Wax Poetics Records, 2011-11-29

A few years ago multi-instrumentalist Adrian Younge composed an original score for the Blaxploitation tribute and parody Black Dynamite - one of the most hilarious movies of the past decade. And now he's back with a new cinematic project under the mysterious name of Venice Dawn, a killer concept album called Something about April. This is the soundtrack for a fictional film that hasn't been directed yet, in the fashion of the late 60s scores. Playing most of the instruments as he's done on his previous album (plus a very special keyboard of his own called the Selene), Younge is helped this time by Motown legend Dennis Coffey on guitar, funkateer Shawn Lee, italian OST specialists Calibro 35 and young soul singer Rebecca Jordan. Imagine Ennio Morricone meets Al Green meets Portishead and you will get a pretty precise idea of the highly romantic, heavy-soul and psychedelic flavours of the Venice Dawn project.
Check our exclusive interview with Adrian Younge on Paris DJs.

AM & Shawn Lee - Paris DJs Betamix

AM & Shawn Lee - Paris DJs Betamix (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2011-09-15 Fine songwriter AM and funkateer Shawn Lee have just released a psychedelic electro-soul record called Celestial Electric on ESL music, loaded with killer tunes. The album was conceived between London and Los Angeles, AM and Shawn Lee sending files to each other until they were happy with the result. You can read the full story in a long and funny 'confessions interview' there. And here is an exclusive mix the two friends cooked, which put a special light on Celestial Electric's influences and background....

AM & Shawn Lee - The ‘Confessions' Interview
(Interview by Nicolas Ragonneau, for Paris DJs - summer 2011)

Vintage soundmaster Shawn Lee is back again and this time he's not alone. With brilliant guitarist and songwriter AM (bred in New Orleans but established in LA), they have just released Celestial Electric (ESL Music), one of the top pop albums of 2011. This funky, addictive and rather psychedelic record was born in Los Angeles where the two musicians have met eventually (Shawn Lee lives in London). Shawn Lee remembers: "During that L.A. trip, we listened to a lot of music together and bonded over our mutual love of vintage French and Italian library and film music and nuggest from the Finders Keepers record label. I suggested that we make an album together, and the rest is history". Celestial Electric was conceived as a transcontinental music files trade between AM in LA and Shawn Lee until each one was happy with the result. Both were kind enough to allow us a 'confessions interview' or a manner of 'questionnaire de Proust' just before they hit the road for their US Tour. Besides, they cooked an exclusive mix for us called AM & Shawn Lee's Paris DJs Betamix.

Interview de AM & Shawn Lee (version française)

AM and Shawn Lee

AM & Shawn Lee - Celestial Electric - out on Eighteen Street Lounge Music

AM and Shawn Lee Celestial Electric
AM & Shawn Lee - Celestial Electric
(CD/Digital) Eighteen Street Lounge Music ESL184, 2011-09-06

The L.A. to London, transatlantic musical collaboration between AM and Shawn Lee was conceived after AM heard Lee's Music And Rhythm album on the radio in Los Angeles and reached out to him via email. The two became quick friends sharing a love for vintage grooves and 60's and 70's soundtrack music and decided to embark on making an album 21st century style. With AM in Los Angeles and Shawn Lee in London the two began bouncing tracks back and fourth resulting in Celestial Electric; a musical match made in cyberspace propelling the duo into their best work yet. AM's honeyed vocals ride a driving percussion section straight into walls of shimmering guitars and glassy keyboards pulling elements as disparate as Gary Numan, Jorge Ben, and Ariel Pink into perfect future pop.

Versus - Paris DJs Extra Flavor Mix

Versus - Paris DJs Extra Flavor Mix Selected by Donnie Bass, mixed by Jesus Crise (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2011-07-19 The Versus French band has only limited a few EPs out right now, but a full-length album is scheduled for this autumn! This band includes some of our long-time friends and collaborators so we're quite proud to have them here as guests. Besides the obvious Herbaliser Band influcences, their music is a real French take on Manchester's mid 90s hip hop/club scene from Grand Central, Ninja Tune, Rob's Records, etc. Here's a snapshot of their vision of today's music, with...
