Tuesday, March 16 2010
We are back this week with a very special event: the lond awaited release of the LAGOS DISCO INFERNO compilation. This is an incredible selection of obscure Disco tracks from the Nigerian 70s dance scene and the result of multiple, ultimate digging expeditions to Nigeria, check voodoofunk.com for information on the story behind this release. If you are into the independant Disco sound, get your copy now as this music simply cannot be found anywhere else. To coincide with this release, we have also done our homework and decided to put together an incredible selection of obscure Afro Disco and Nigerian Boogie records. Collectors be quick as it does not get much more obscure than this and we only have one copy of each title up for grabs right now. And if you like the 80s Boogie sound check our new Nigerian Boogie Back mix on ParisDJs.com. Happy hunting!

Superfly Records - The Nigerian Boogie Back | Comments: 1
Tuesday, March 16 2010
While legendary American bands like Shalamar, Atlantic Star and Change were scoring big hits in US R&B charts in the early 80s, numerous inspired outfits across the globe tried to immitate the popular synth/flap bass Boogie sound of that golden era of Soul music. Successful imitations saw the day in cities like London, Rio de Janeiro or Tokyo. Yet, until very recently, very few knew that a massive Boogie scene was also existing in a very improbable part of the world: Lagos, Nigeria. This selection is an attempt to introduce you to some of the lost treasures of the very respectable early 80s Nigerian Boogie scene. Enjoy!

The Funkees - Slipping Into Darkness
(MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2010-02-10
One of Superfly Records (our partner store) specialities is African records. 7 inches, long players, the rarest Afro vinyls are to be find at our Paris shop or on our online store. While preparing an African Special a few weeks ago, we stumbled upon a fantastic 45 from Nigerian band The Funkees, which included a superb cover of War, Slipping Into Darkness. We digitalized this beauty, had it mastered by our soundmaster Grant Phabao, and we're now sharing it with everyone as a free vitual release on ParisDJs.com. Don't say we don't love you!
