We're opening a new section on the site, with each month a selection of records that labels, artists and distributors sent to us. By records we mean vinyl LPs, 12 inches, 10 inches, 7 inches, and CDs. Not the pay-to-listen-but-you-don't-own-anything kind of digital files, but the real treat, which is a LOT more work than the standard mp3. Expect to find some already released albums and singles (some labels happen to be late sometimes, and some others it's our fault cos' we need to find the time to listen to the records properly), and of course some exclusives that haven't been featured anywhere else yet thanks to our ever-growing friendly network… Contact us is you want to be listed in this section next month.

Summer 2012, Square Records were right there on spot at the start of the current re-edits craze, with amazing reworks from Onur Engin. The latest edition of their highly collectable 12 inches has arrived at the end of last year and as usual it's a 1000 copies worldwide, no re-press and no digital release affair, on which we advise to jump on before it's too late. This time Robert Luis aka Nirobi, A&R and co-founder of Tru Thoughts Recordings and a world-renowned DJ is the guest of honor, with 4 new edits of choice and their augmented dancefloor boogieness. You might be surprised, but even though there's fantastic re-edits from Soho, St Tropez or Paul McCartney in there, for us the revered treasure of the lot is the Mick Hucknall one (yep, the singer from Simply Red!), whose Farther Up The Road originally found on his 2008 Tribute to Bobby (a tribute to the blues musician Bobby "Blue" Bland), should turn all soulful dancefloors upside down, each time, guaranteed! We'll be playing this gem in the upcoming Bag of Goodies mix we've cooked for you last weekend...

Square Records are proud to welcome back Onur Engin who has reworked some more gems from the vaults. His first 12 inch on Square simply flew out of the shops (and was one of the most in demand 12"s Juno Records have had this year). As with all Square releases this is strictly limited to 1000 copies and never to be repressed and never available digitally. First up is The Blackbyrds who get the disco treatment. Check that synth – it still sounds so good! Esther Phillips' Home.. is a deep and funky building groove which is still a real winner. Heading up the flip we have a lovely 8 minute version of Isaac Hayes' Pimpmobile with those killer Hayes strings. Carmen Rivero rounds things off nicely with that Cumbia groove that's rocking the deeper dancefloors across the world. Although begged to repress the first 2 installments, stick to their word. This 12 will never be repressed, so don't miss out! When its gone, its gone.

This is limited to 1000 copies worldwide only and will never be repressed. Dj Yakuza from Turkey gives the modern Disco treatment to Mr Saadiq. A big tune on the dancefloor as it builds and builds and builds. The track With no beats from Nas now has some beats but instead of opting for straight up Hip Hop drums DJ Yakuza goes for the Brazilian/ Bossa take. An officially commissioned mix from Mr Jones, wich never officially got released due to sample clearance issues finally gets its rightfull place on wax. The Pharcyde's all time Hip Hop classic gets the warm and heavy and fuzzy funk feel.

We have no idea where these records have come from or why the letter attached kept insisting they are not the new Rebtuz series. From what we can gather Onur Engin is a Turkish producer and these are a few treats he has worked on to fit into his infamous dj sets.
