Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids - We Be All Africans (CD/LP, Strut Records, 2016)
27 May 2016, 01:15
The San Francisco ensemble The Pyramids is back after the reissues of its 1970s cult albums, a tour all over Europe in 2015, and an unstoppable 45 released right afterwards, last summer, on the German label Philophon: 'Rhapsody In Berlin'. A little gem of spiritual, funky afro-jazz produced by Max Weissenfeld (Poets Of Rhythm/Whitefield Brothers), to be found also on this cosmic jazz album, an...

Paris DJs Soundsystem - African Mashed Potato Popcorn Vol.10 - When Afrobeat Meets Jazz
14 March 2016, 17:17
This mix was cooked with only one person in mind: Collen Chandler, from Liverpool, who supported our 15 CDs anthology crowdfunding campaign and asked us to try on a "when afrobeat meets jazz" theme, mixing the modern & old with an emphasis on the modern. Jimi Tenor - Order Of Nothingness (7", Philophon, 2016)
08 February 2016, 13:31
After a series of hard to pigeonhole fantastic Ethio/Afro/jazz/reggae or hip hop 45s (with Hailu Mergia, Idris Ackamoor, Roy X and Guy One…), and the marvelous Polyversal Souls album, Max Whitefield's Philophon label will put out next month a seven inch from Finnish producer/multi-intrumentalist Jimi Tenor. Lyrics on the A-side feature some "mushrooms of devious" which seem very...

Todd Simon - Jazz On 45 Vol.2
18 January 2016, 12:36

Which is why it's very nice to see our collegue Todd Simon uploading his 'Jazz on 45' mixes on Soundcloud, with a full write-up, including all the art covers and a track-by-track commentary, available on Wax...

The Polyversal Souls - Invisible Joy (CD/2LP, Philophon, 2015)
21 September 2015, 13:45
We had the chance to have German drummer Max Weissenfeldt visiting us at Paris DJs recently. Max is one of those legendary musicians that aren't talked about a lot in the music history books yet. But he's been more than heavily featured in what should be your favorite of those history books: the parisdjs.com website you're currently reading! Because Max is one of the founding members of the Poets...
