Recorded in Yaoundé, Cameroon, this brand new single by Franck Biyong & Massak is an honorary tribute to the great leaders of the African independences 50 years ago. On the musical point of view this is Franck Biyong's long awaited "back to the roots" recording after years of musical search and explorations! Definitely one of the finest 21st century roots Afrobeat tracks out there these days, with great horn polyphony, complex polyrhythm and Franck's confident vocals and message, reminding you there still is a "weapon of the future"... Kologbo feat. The Deacon - Freedom Back
Sunday 06 December 2009, 18:27
Some of you discovered Kologbo on stage at the Afrofunk party we organized last summer with Ebo Taylor & The Poets Of Rhythm. Some others already knew he was the tenor guitar player from Fela Kuti's Afrika 70 and he now plays on stage with Tony Allen. Some of you might even have heard the Remember Fela Anikulapo Kuti album he released in 2007 with Berlin's heaviest afrobeat ensemble Afrobeat Academy... Le Damn Dog - Watch Out
Saturday 12 September 2009, 15:46 1
Rprdkt is home label of parisian band Le Damn Dog. LE DAMN DOG is a hellhound of a new project from top Parisian DJ-producer Erik Rug and DJ-MC Dynamax from the South Bronx. The surprise element is the musical tree on which the pair have chosen to cock their leg: a slavering mix of, hiphop and rock'n'roll delivered with pure punk attitude. Watch Out bangs together Erik's Stooges-style raw power guitar barrages with Dynamax's new-found 'Black John Wayne' persona, howling or panting to ram home the hard-hitting lyrics. Attention: The title has such an infectious hook that surely makes it an...
Lyrics Born - I Like It, I Love It (Grant Phabao Remix)
Thursday 13 August 2009, 14:19 1
When Berkeley hip hop meets Jamaican reggae... Pressure keeps on rising for the upcoming releases of Grant Phabao's three (!) new albums with The Lone Ranger, Carlton Livingston and The Jays (on his own label T.I.M.E.C. co-run with Djouls and Captain Detendu)... The french dubmeister offers here a bouncy reggae rework of I Like It, I Love It, taken from last year's hit album Everywhere At Once (released on Quannum/ANTI). It's kind of a cousin of the N.A.S.A. remix he did earlier this year (featuring David Byrne and Chuck D.!) - all party-style with its rolling drum breaks and hookish...
Antibalas and Doctor L - Family Affair
Sunday 02 August 2009, 20:18
Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra had some spare time during their last 2006 french tour... They jumped in Doctor L's studio on a lazy sunday afternoon, and cooked with him a killer afrobeat version of Sly Stone's classic Family Affair! At the end of the day, this future classic was done and everything's in there: Fela-inspired vocals from the all-mighty Amayo, phat afro-broken beat, sweat horns and chorus vocals and the magic Doctor's touch on the production... A Strictly limited 45 was released on the Mind Service label, quickly selling out. Comes summer 2009, Martin Perna and Amayo visiting us...
