He runs with it and breaks for the border. On the flip, the one & the only Quincy Jones's sublime Summer in the City is given the ultra clean and subtle OE treatment, right amount of slickness and pump to compliment the original and taken out to a very satisfying 9.30 minutes.

Onur Engin - Edits Vol. 1 - out on OE Edits

Onur Engin Edits Vol 1
Onur Engin - Edits Vol. 1
(12" only, no digital) Onur Engin Edits OE01, 2010-12-06

Istanbul's finest Onur Engin has been causing quite a stir with his exceptional and lovingly re-crafted edits for a little while now. Onur's selections range in tempo and feel and always drawn from masterful musicians and producers. His additional production and arrangement is both subtle and exceptionally clear, breathing new life into these exquisite songs. And here's a new 12" of three special edits under OE. I Thought It Was You brings the ever inventive, ever relevant Herbie Hancock's hit from the seminal 1978 LP Sunlight bang up to date with a superb treatment here. Onur gets a fuller, richer sound from the original allowing the sinuous funk bassline some room to work it's magic and of course, has there ever been a better use of the vocoder than here? Turn Your Love Around takes a slice of classic soulful boogie, extends the intro, adds some dancefloor pump and lets the unique George Benson's vocals soar, and when the chorus kicks in - happiness guaranteed. The B-Side track, Your Love in Onur's hands becomes a Balearic hymn to the sun, a life affirming, soulful and orchestral epic seamlessly extended out to nearly 10 minutes. This is truly a flawless edit of an already extraordinary piece of music by Barry White. These edits, where the song always remains clear as a bell, the original production is respected, augmented and most astonishingly, improved. Strictly vinyl only, you most definitely don't want to miss out on this package.
