Various - Impossible Ark : A Compilation
(CD) Impossible Ark/Unfold/Tru Thoughts UNFOLDCD009, 2009-10-05
Impossible Ark recognises that music is many things to many people, and believes in celebrating that diversity and delivering World class artists, concepts, performance and production to your turntable, CD player or iPod with every release. The label is the brainchild of producer Ben Lamdin (aka Nostalgia 77) and bassist Riaan Vosloo, whose highly successful collaborative work on Tru Thoughts has produced six popular albums - from the live recordings of the Nostalgia 77 Octet to studio-based explorations on an experimental jazz and funk tip - and most recently saw them joining forces with the legendary Keith and Julie Tippett for the uniquely brilliant and highly acclaimed Sessions LP. On this stunning compilation you will find the blue-eyed country soul of Jeb Loy Nichols sitting harmoniously alongside Lamdin's hotly anticipated new Afro-funk project, the Skeleton; the other-worldly sounds of the Rhythmatic Orchestra rubbing shoulders with the highly regarded experimentalism of Examples Of Twelves; and many more treasures besides.

Various - Tru Thoughts Covers
(CD) Unfold/Tru Thoughts UNFOLDCD008, 2009-09-07
Tru Thoughts Covers is a mighty selection of the most pivotal and interesting cover versions to have peppered Tru Thoughts' ten year history of releases, boasting many crossover hits; from Nostalgia 77 and Alice Russell's epic take on the White Stripes; to The Quantic Soul Orchestra's version of 4Hero; via the Bamboos' mod-soul re-imagining of Kings Of Leon; and Hot 8 Brass Band's rambunctious, world-renowned version of Sexual Healing, taking Marvin Gaye to the Mardi Gras. Between them these songs have gained tremendous acclaim, and radio play on a huge spectrum of stations, including BBC Radio 1 & 2, 6Music, BBC London, XFM and NME Radio. In addition, this 17-track collection also features new exclusive tracks from the likes of Lizzy Parks, Woon, Aldo Vanucci and Quantic and his Combo Bárbaro.

Paris DJs Soundstem - 21st Century Latin Vol.4 (Latin Funk)
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2009-08-20
The Latin scene is vibrant in Europe. Quantic offered at the beginning of the summer a fantastic new album on a Columbian tip. Don't miss his live show with his Combo Barbaro in Paris on September 12 (Le Bataclan). Electic new albums from Black Grass and Dub Pistols are filled with marvels in all styles - latin grooves included. Palov & Mishkin come from Greece and their latest CD has been spinning all summer in our stereos. Skeleton is the new project from Brighton's jazz master Nostalgia 77, rising the bar with each new release. An afro-latin piece will first be available on the upcoming Impossible Ark compilation out early october via Unfold/Tru Thoughts. Spain is here too with an extract from the vibrant Achilifunk remix compilation from Lovemonk records. We'll def play more tracks from this one in the future! More spanish soul jazz vibes from Spain are featured with The Jivers and their swinging song taken from the latest Jazz&Milk Records compilation EP. I've grown to the habit of buying this German label's vinyl release systematically and haven't been disappointed yet. More German latin funkiness comes next from Una Mas Trio and Mo' Horizons, both on the Agogo label, another one to be followed closely. We close the mix as we started it, with an artist from Brighton, Black Grass - his third album is so full of hits I regret buying it on CD only.
...More '21st Century Latin' music to come soon in these pages...

Lizzy Parks - This & That
(CD) Tru Thoughts TRUCD188, 2009-06-22
'This And That', Lizzy Parks' second album on Tru Thoughts, is a fully acoustic affair that flows between melodic, guitar-led ditties, and minimalistic moments of pure sonic bliss wrapped in expansive strings. Produced by Nostalgia 77, this stunning collection of new and exclusive acoustic material, interspersed with beautifully stripped back and re-imagined acoustic versions of songs from Parks' acclaimed debut, is imbued with the characteristic playfulness, sense of romance and lightness of touch that set her apart as a singer-songwriter to watch.
