New releases coming on Nanny Tango in '07
Saturday 10 March 2007, 20:11
VIBRATIONS FROM THE MOTHERLAND: REMIX CD
Nanny Tango has licensed classic recordings by Busi Mhlongo, Amampondo, Madosini, Bryce Wassey and much more from South Africa's Melt 2000 label. We invited some of the coolest broken, afro beat, electro, brazilian, heavy funk & jazz producers around today to remix the tracks. The remixes are now all in & sounding quite special! Keep watching for further details on our first album project...
MOONCAKES - SEVEN INCHES OF HEAVY FUNK!
Belgium's Mooncakes release their first single for Nanny Tango this spring. Feelin Good / Don't Leave Me hanging is a double A side 7" oozing southern fried funk, flutes, guitars & rump shaking beats.
TONGUES OF FIRE - NEW 7" SINGLE
If Sun Ra or Albert Ayler led a marching band on the set of 1970's flick The Wicker Man they may well have sounded like Tongues Of Fire. Band leader Tim Hill expertly fuses American jazz and English folk traditions into hypnotic, unstoppable rhythms with roaring brass lines. Smokin Jo Crow + Washerwoman's Brawl is the first single on Nanny Tango with a TOF album currently in production.

Loretta Heywood - Little Angel (Jung Collective Rehash)

Loretta Heywood - Little Angel
(7") Nanny Tango NT6, 2006-08
Review :
The current UK soul scene is bubbling with talent nowdays, and while record stores close because lousy records don't sell no more, Alan Gubby (Jung Collective) has taken a cool approach to the 'crisis' with his little label Nanny Tango. If music is all digital shit now, then most of what's left for a record to be bought is the name, theartwork, the sleeve... the object itself. Maybe that's one of the reasons Alan's all about beautiful 45s now. Add all that to a global tendancy towards a comeback to proper songs, and you'll get the new Nanny Tango 45, starring former Bomb The Bass, Bugz In The Attic or Afronaught vocalist, Loretta Heywood. The original song, "Little Angel", is a soft piece of nicely crafted pop/folk, and it clearly aims for the heart of radio programmer and advertising music directors... It should appeal to various "nu soul" compilations quite easily too, and if some cyber-loungers ask for some more beat-oriented smoothness, there's an Oblique remix with many layers of synth that should do the job. But the b-side is the real deal here, with an extended Jung Collective afro-psychedelic "rehash", which manages to transcend the original towards a full entrancing trip into 21st century tribal soul. Nanny Tango / Jung Collective: Gandharva Interview
Monday 03 April 2006, 10:25
Source : afrozsiraf.hu
Gandharva: Since when did you direct your own Nanny Tango label? And what was your intention with founding it?
Jung Collective: Nanny Tango started at the end of 2001. I'd recorded for lots of cool labels (The Leaf Label / Tru Thoughts / Soul Jazz / Cup Of Tea / DOT...) but was getting frustrated waiting to fit into other people's release schedules. I wanted creative freedom & a challenge and I got both!
Gandharva: The Nanny Tango releases are 7" vinyls only. What is the reason of it?
Jung Collective: I love artists & labels who put that extra effort into their output. Releases aren't just product - they're expressions first. Nanny Tango is a cottage industry. I put lots of care into making each release as individual as the budget will allow. Everyone can burns CD's - 7" vinyl stands out, it's great for DJ's, more collectible & more fun.
Gandharva: Your new release (Jung Collective - Prefab Trad) has been out recently. What about the feedback?
Jung Collective: Feedback is really positive & still coming in. There are more floor friendly tracks on this release, especially the Flevans mix but with the usual leftfield quirkiness too. People are realising we don't just follow the musical herd and you get something more individual from each Nanny Tango release. We've had great support from Bastard Jazz (USA), Si Begg, Paul Murphy, Deisler, Kraak & Smaak (Holland), TIMEC (Paris) and many more.
Jung Collective - Prefab Trad EP

Jung Collective - Prefab Trad EP
(7") Nanny Tango NT5, 2006-03-31
Info :
We have been waiting a long time for those tracks to come out. Precedent releases could be found on Leaf, Soul Jazz or Tru Thoughts labels, among others, under many different guises and names. After a small hiatus (launching new label Nanny Tango) The Jung Collective is now back with not one but TWO new singles, available on very limited edition phat-sounding 7 inches!! And there's even a Flevans remix in the lot!!!
That's what I call good news...
Let's start with the B-side, "Disappear", with an original version available only as a mp3 download on Nanny Tango's website. Don't hesitate to spend a few minutes of your over-sollicitated time to some worldwide beats and breaks, distorded cinematic horn riffs, free solos - in short a nice piece of full-tripping future funk! Then you could think about buying the 7inch with the remixes: a dark drum'n'ambient strings'n'noises one signed by Codetripper (you could say 'abstract hip hop'), and a breakbeats'n'afrofunk soulful one by Richard E.
Really a nice and progressive coupling of tracks for all kinds of compilations, mixes and radio shows, in the vein of the recent outburst of post-breakbeat in the UK (thanks to Tru Thoughts leading the pack).
Then there's the "Prefad Trad" on the A-side, which is destined to become a fast favorite of all crazy music lovers like Mr Scruff, Treva Whateva, Andy Votel, etc. (myself included). Connoisseurs would even say this is pure Brighton power! This is nu-funk for people who love the old funk, 100% coolness for all the jazz dancers that are slowly reappearing on the dancelfoors, on a worldwide scale. So what about the Flevans remix then? It's a storming winner, once again. Flevans goes all Flatbeatesque on a heavy disco groove and we can't help but smile with all our teeths. Don't miss this single! You've been warned!!
Tracklisting :
A1. Jung Collective - Prefab Trad (Original)
A2. Jung Collective - Prefab Trad (Flevans Remix)
B1. Jung Collective - Disappear (Codetripper Remix)
B2. Jung Collective - Disappear (Richard E Remix)

Trouble & Strife: 2 East-End funk muppets who support their love of electro & dub with a weekly market stall selling rugs and stuff.
