B. Cee-Lo vs Grant Phabao - The One
Note : limited edition 100 copies only - made in Jamaica.
Info :
A few months ago we received some bootleg MP3s of Grant Phabao riddims that had leaked on the p2p, credited to the 'Booty Smash Soundsystem'. It's probably the same guys who sent us a copy of this glorious 7 inch, for which they said "only 100 copies were pressed, in Jamaica"...
Stevie's magic voice on Phabao's 'new vintage' 70s reggae production works so well we decided to share this track with you - Reggae Soul at its best!
You can hear the Cee-Lo vs Phabao bootleg in the Molesting Laura Vol.7 mix by Grant Phabao & Djouls, from way back in May 2007 - Soulful hip hop dressed in classy reggae stylings...

Grant Phabao & Djouls - Are Molesting Laura Vol.12
(MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2008-06-22
Info :
We hope you enjoyed the previous Molesting Laura mix of soul and funk reggae covers cos this one's in the same vein, with soul (a bit) & reggae (mostly) interpretations of songs by The Supremes, The Temptations, Barry White, The Bee Gees (!), Santana and a few selected others... Opening and closing this mix is our favorite UK soul singer Alice Russell, first covering The Supremes' My World Is Empty Without You with blue-eyed class, and then being remixed by our main man Grant Phabao, with the help of legendary Jamaican deejay The Lone Ranger adding some new lyrics in the mix. An incredible treat - don't miss the Lone Ranger with the Soul Stereo Soundsystem on June 27th at Les Nuits Zébrées (La Bellevilloise, Paris and on Radio Nova), and the following day opening for the Garance Reggae Festival at Le Zenith (Paris)!!

(MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2008-01-24
Info :
To cool things down a little bit after this crazy series of Molesting Laura mixes, we've cooked a wicked set of soul and funk reggae covers, which got us digging quite deep into our Jamaican funk compilations. Besides some smokin' takes on The Temptations, Lalo Schifrin, Dusty Springfield, The Meters, Stevie Wonder, William DeVaughn, Billy Paul or Syl Johnson, you might enjoy Grant Phabao's superb reggae remix of Alice Russell's cover of The White Stripes. [Also, be aware that a 4-tracker of Grant Phabao reggae remixes of Alice Russell songs, "Alice In Jamaica EP" is planned for 2008 on Brighton's Tru Thoughts label...]

Grant Phabao & Djouls - 21st Century Roots Vol.4
(MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2007-11-18

[comment faire?/how to?]
Info :
A few months have gone by with only one or two new mixes appearing over here but thankfully, we haven't received much complaints yet. After this nearly-hiatus period, we're glad to announce we're back with bags and bags and bags of new records to play. Beside our usual record-digging over-activity, cool labels like Tru Thoughts, Ubiquity, Freestyle, Melting Pot, First Word, Ropeadope, Sonar Kollektiv, Les Disques du Telegraphe or T.I.M.E.C. have been sending us some incredible stuff recently, and we cannot thank them all nearly enough.
Things start heating up with a "21st Century Roots Vol.4", carefully selected by one of our most persistent DJs, Djouls, and especially blended by the n°1 french soundmaster, Grant Phabao, whose MP3s might sound better than your WAVs... As you might already know, this series focuses on reggae-tinted music that's been produced after the year 2000. Expect a tight selection of roots reggae, jamaican funk and dub - perfectly fit all the lazy iPod smokers out there. The Mr Vegas vs Grant Phabao bootleg is 100% exclusive and we'd love to get more info on The Flying Customs band/group/artist (??) who sent us this back-to-the-roots marvel...
Coming soon, a serie of 3 new Molesting Laura mixes for all lovers of surprising covers...

Ty - Don't Watch That (Grant Phabao Remix)
(12" virtual release/MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) Big Dada/T.I.M.E.C. TIMEC123, 2006-11-23

Review :
What's happening in Paris DJs headquarters? So many cool remixes have started to appear in our headphones these days... And all EXCLUSIVE!!
After some mighty George Clinton soul reggae thang, a rare Philly soul reggae mashup of Lee McDonald (which will finally NOT be released - Favorite Recordings being run by a complete crook) and a supa-cool hip hop act from Rawkus Records, The Procussions, again dressed in classy reggae stylings, we're proud to offer a brand new Grant Phabao reggae remix of TY from Big Dada Records (Ninja Tune's hip hop sister label).
Using the a capella from "Don't What That (Knickers, Y-Fronts and Jock Straps)", the first single extracted from the new album "Closer", the french dubmeister has build a complete new uptempo one drop riddim, encapsulating the original track in roots reggae flavor, 100% original Jamaican style. The mashup works perfectly but you should be quick to download this one cos' we're only offering it for 24 hours!!
Why 24h only? Is it a Jack Bauer-inspired twisted thing?? Not at all. We're just celebrating TY's tonite show at La Maroquinerie in Paris, with full band support. We saw his superb show at the Montreux Jazz Festival - all you french jazzy hip hop headz don't you dare miss this one!

Review :
In those hard times when government individuals thrive more and more on the poor, it's really nice to meet educated and involved artists. The Procussions are that kind of people, nice, intelligent and with something to say, without ever losing their natural cool. This is rare enough to be pointed out...
Their latest album, "5 Sparrows For 3 Cents", was released earlier this year in the US but only in november 2006 in Europe. It's top-of-the-notch L.A. hip hop, funky, old school, with plenty of sunshine, so we thought at Paris DJs headquarters that it could be a good idea to try and do a collaboration with them, that could also help promote their french tour.
The band got into the idea right away and soon -thanks to the Internet- the french dubmeister Grant Phabao, who recently reworked some George Clinton, Lee McDonald, Ty or Alice Russell tracks, received some vocal parts to play with...
A few days later a new reggae instrumental was born, wonderfully gracing The Procussions' track with skanking riffs, heavy bass, clavinets chops, echo, reverb and lots of percussion - Phabao style.
This is hip hop/reggae mashing-up at his best, we're just plain proud to offer you this as a free download. Get it while it's hot and don't miss the rest of the tour (see dates below).

Reggae meets Funk
Our first single is an unreleased remix of George Clinton's "U Ain't Runnin Shit" from his latest album "How Late Do U Have 2b B4 Ur Absent", carefully skanked by Grant Phabao into a sunshine piece of psycadelicreggaesoulthang.
The track has been fully approved by the Dr. Funkenstein himself who visited us while in Paris for a supa-show at Le Zenith, along with Steel Pulse & The Gladiators!
