Paris DJs Soundsystem 21st Century Latin Vol 4
Paris DJs Soundstem - 21st Century Latin Vol.4 (Latin Funk)
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2009-08-20

The Latin scene is vibrant in Europe. Quantic offered at the beginning of the summer a fantastic new album on a Columbian tip. Don't miss his live show with his Combo Barbaro in Paris on September 12 (Le Bataclan). Electic new albums from Black Grass and Dub Pistols are filled with marvels in all styles - latin grooves included. Palov & Mishkin come from Greece and their latest CD has been spinning all summer in our stereos. Skeleton is the new project from Brighton's jazz master Nostalgia 77, rising the bar with each new release. An afro-latin piece will first be available on the upcoming Impossible Ark compilation out early october via Unfold/Tru Thoughts. Spain is here too with an extract from the vibrant Achilifunk remix compilation from Lovemonk records. We'll def play more tracks from this one in the future! More spanish soul jazz vibes from Spain are featured with The Jivers and their swinging song taken from the latest Jazz&Milk Records compilation EP. I've grown to the habit of buying this German label's vinyl release systematically and haven't been disappointed yet. More German latin funkiness comes next from Una Mas Trio and Mo' Horizons, both on the Agogo label, another one to be followed closely. We close the mix as we started it, with an artist from Brighton, Black Grass - his third album is so full of hits I regret buying it on CD only.
...More '21st Century Latin' music to come soon in these pages...

DustyTape - Piano, Soul & Salsa - Con Mucho Gusto Vol.3
(MP3 Podcast on www.

Tracklisting :

01. Tony Pabon Y La Protesta - El Sol No Brilla
(from 'On The Right Track' album, 1972 / Rico)

02. Pete Rodriguez / Louie Ramirez - Evil Ways
(from 'El Barrio - Sounds From The Spanish Harlem Streets' compilation, 2007 / Fania)

03. Bantous Jazz - Wachi Wara
(from 'The Shrine Presents Afrobeat' compilation, 2000 / Ocho)
Africa Rules!

04. La Fantastica - Las Nenas
(from '2001' album, 197? / Mericana)

05. Ricardo Marrero & The Group - Babalonia
(from 'A Taste' album, 1976 / TSG)

06. Les Frères Dejean - Yoyo
(from 'L'Univers' album, 1979 / Macaya)

07. Eddie Palmieri & Cheo Feliciano - Busca lo Tuyo
(from 'Too Much' album, 2002 / Vaya)

08. The New York Latin Scene with Sonny Bravo - Work your Show
(from 'You Gotta Turn Me On' album, 1968 / Columbia)

09. Bronx River Parkway - Mi Corazon
(from 'San Sebastian 152' album, 2008 / Truth & Soul)

10. Joey Pastrana And His Orchestra - Tristeza
(from 'Don Pastrana' album, 1972 / Parmazo)

11. Harry Fraticelli y Los Barbarians - Te Agradezco El Consejo
(from 'Por El Libro' album, 1973 / 4 Points)

12. Fausto rey - El Mensajero del Amor
(from 'Latino' album, 197? / 4 Points)

Paris DJs Soundstem - Latin Dance Party
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2009-02-11

What started as a 21st Century Latin selection ended like this: latin + dance = party! As usual, we tried to dig deep into our (latin) stacks, bringing a rare Michael Ray (from the Sun Ra Arkestra) track from 10 years ago featuring a blistering solo from Trey Anastasio (Phish), a killer Irakere cover from Grupo Fantasma, some nice bootie business from Me&You (Tru Thoughts), a jazz stormer from The Hi-Fly Orchestra... and many more supergroovy latin goodies!

The Captain Biography :

The Captain is in your extended network. Great traveller and lover, son of a Captain, he was born in the middle of nowhere on a cruising ship in March 19XX. The Captain grew up quickly, surrounded by beautiful girls and waves of the ocean. During his childhood he showed a strong interest for the gentle sex, and collected many partners throughout the world. In 19XX at the age of 18 he was sent to jail because he tried to seduce Queen Elizabeth, and he actually managed it, so the Queen got him out of jail on the same day. In may 20XX he was arrested again when he was caught in a hotel room in New York in company with the Lady of president George Bush. During his stay in jail he started listening to a lot of music mostly jazz, funk, soul and hiphop. He started producing and releasing some records for Afroart and Resense. Unfortunately he's still in jail...
Please support the Captain.

Press Releases and Reviews for "We Will Rock You / You Can't Hide" 12" (Resense)
The first six releases of Resense are completely sold out - just a few left in some stores around the world. Time for the next two releases: the 007 comes along with a smasher, you will never have expected. "We Will Rock You" on Power Bossa!!! "You Can't Hide" on the other side, is not so obvious, but also a brillant track on the Resense series. Be quick, this one will run out very fast...

Is it that "We Will Rock You" is what you're asking isn't it. Yes it is: this is one big fat Queen mash-up that's gonna rock the dancefloor! Freddie's stadium-friendly vocals are paired with an upbeat bossa-jazz backing for maximum twisting action. Flipside track "You Can't Hide" sees the Captain taking on EWF's "Can't Hide Love", again in a similar bossa nova style, and again sure to work on the dancefloor.

Paris DJs Soundstem - 21st Century Latin Vol.3
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2009-01-07

Latin music has always been a favorite for us. We could talk for hours about Deodato, Marcos Valle and so many others. We even managed to produce an 'Electronic Bossa & Psychedelic Soul Samba' album a few years ago with Captain Détendu... Our '21st Century Latin' series is in the same vein of latinized electronics, latin dub, electro-colombian psychedelics, latin jazz & funk... We're diggin' here! Enjoy those new latin grooves from Germany (Mr Confuse, Bahama Soul Club), Spain (Mantecao), Sweden (Dubben), USA (Ocote Soul Sounds, Greenwood Rhythm Coalition) and UK (Quantic, Sidestepper)... and don't forget to be back on February 11th for an explosive party-style 4th volume!

Grant Phabao & Djouls - 21st Century Latin Vol.2
(MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2008-01-26

Info :
Here's another hard-diggin' selection of current latin beats and grooves from all over the world. Hip hop beats fused over latin horn riffs and percussions for moustached B-Boys. Superb UK-imported bootlegs from the now famous Los Hermanos Latinos, G.A.M.M. or Rebtuz imprints for the new rare grooves lovers. New roots latin music from Holland (Jazz Juice), USA (The Motet, The Spanish Harlem Orchestra), England (Me&You, alias TM Juke & Tru Thoughts honcho Rob Luis), Spain (Los Fulanos) or Brazil (Bruno E remixing the classic Tim Maia) for the worldwide beatheads. And a Tarantino-tasting cha cha cha/surf from Japan to close the set...
