Mike L - On A Columbo Tip
(CD/LP/Download) First Word Records FW36, 2010-10-25

First Word are proud to present the debut album from Mike-L, the fantastic On A Columbo Tip. Following on from other First Word releases this year, Mike has crafted an album that shares the dusty-fingered, crate-digging sound of Herma Puma with the unashamedly retro style of The Simonsound's Reverse Engineering. Mike's been with First Word since day one, winning over fans with his dusty-grooved hip hop and funk production. Eye Of The Storm was one of the first 12's the label released back in 2005, and was a defining release for First Word. A veteran of six DMC finals Mike has managed the seemingly rare feat of combining jaw-dropping turntablist skills with genuine beat-making talent, crafting a 15-track opus that takes in Madlib-style Hip Hop, Cut Chemist-influenced breakbeat funk and the eerie soundscapes of RJD2.

(CD) First Word Records FW30, 2009-09-14

First Word Records return from the summer break with a brand new mix album celebrating five years of the label. Kicking off with recent signings 6ix Toys and the infectious Giggle then moving swiftly into kidkanevil's Black Bug, the mix takes in all the label's biggest club tunes. With early highlights such as The Haggis Horns' Hot Damn! and kidkanevil's Kranium Rock (along with Diesler's bouncy re-rub), sitting alongside more recent efforts including 6ix Toys' huge cover of The Prodigy's Voodoo People and a couple of tracks from Homecut's highly-praised No Freedom Without Sacrifice album.
