Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey - One Day In Brooklyn EP
(CD/Digital) Kinnara Records/The Royal Potato Family, 2009-09-01
Evolution defines the spirit of Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. In fact, evolution is what allows this Tulsa, Oklahoma institution to thrive. Greater than the sum of its parts, JFJO is hitting new peaks in a historic 15-year career. Founding pianist Brian Haas and drummer Josh Raymer made the decision at the outset of 2009 to expand what was one of the fiercest modern jazz trios in recent memory to a quartet by adding lap steel guitarist Chris Combs and upright bassist Matt Hayes. The new line-up quickly re-emerged with a fresh energy and an invigorated sound, touring hard for the first half of the year. In May, JFJO entered the studio to document their rebirth at 58NS Studios in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The sessions are now set for release September 1 as an EP entitled One Day In Brooklyn on the quartet's own Kinnara Records (distributed through The Royal Potato Family).
The CD is available at the Superfly Records store in Paris.

Paris DJs Soundsystem - Who Is Molesting Laura ? (part 5)
(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2009-05-06
This is not your usual Molesting Laura mix. Of course, it's all covers, some easy to recognize, some others not that obvious... That's because we've been specially digging in our vaults of American modern jazz. The kind of your never hear about over the Atlantic. The trip will take you from downtown New York (Medeski Martin and Wood) to New Orleans (Dirty Dozen Brass Band), from Brooklyn (Marco Benevento) to Tulsa (Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey), from San Diego (The Greyboy Allstars) to Bridgeport (Fuzz), back to Brooklyn (Soulive), and from Harlem (The Harlem Experiment) to San Francisco (Garaj Mahal)...
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band track is taken from their album produced by John Medeski, Buck Jump - New Orleans down home funky jazz at its best. The Marco Benevento one is from his 2009 album Me Not Me, an incredible set of covers done piano trio with sculpted sounds - with bassist Reed Mathis and drummers Matt Chamberlain and Andrew Barr, two of them being members of The Slip. Long-time readers will recognize them... Also, don't pass out on another piano trio, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, really mind-blowing. We've played a track from their latest album, Winterwood, which you can download for free on their site! Finally, this mix is an opportunity to talk about the Harlem Experiment album released on Ropeadope in 2007. It's just a monster album with the cream of NY uptown jazz musicians, fusing jazz, klezmer, salsa, soul, hip-hop and funk. One of the best new thing! we've heard this century.

Marco Benevento - Me Not Me
(CD) Royal Potato Family, 2009-02-03
Marco Benevento returns with Me Not Me, a new studio album featuring interpretations of songs by artists including My Morning Jacket, Leonard Cohen and Deerhoof among others. The ten-track collection arrives within a year from release of Benevento's critically acclaimed debut studio effort, Invisible Baby. Like its predecessor, Benevento is joined on the sessions by bassist Reed Mathis and drummers Matt Chamberlain and Andrew Barr. The band recorded at Chroma Sound in Seattle during days off on a West Coast tour earlier this year. Engineer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Antony & The Johnsons, Phish) mixed the sessions in Brooklyn. Of further note, Benevento takes a giant step into the 21st century with the formation of his own label, The Royal Potato Family (distributed by MRI/Red), for the worldwide release of Me Not Me.
The CD is available at the Superfly Records store in Paris.

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey - Lil' Tae Rides Again
(CD) Hyena Records, 2008-04-08
Info :
Lil Tae Rides Again, but even better Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey rides again. After laying fairly low in 2007, JFJO have re-emerged with a new album that will blow the minds of even those use to having their minds blown by the Tulsa trio. Joining the band for this record is underground electronic music producer Tae Meyulks. Together they leaped head first into an ambient alternate universe, creating a record that will tickle corners of the mind you didn't even know you had. It's beautiful and sprawling and very much a true jazz odyssey. We can't wait for people to start hearing it.

Marco Benevento - Invisible Baby
(CD) Hyena Records, 2008-02-12
Info :
Marco Benevento's debut studio album Invisible Baby was released this past Tuesday. If we don't say so ourselves, it's hands down one of the best records to come out in the first half of in 2008. Marco is joined by Reed Mathis on bass and Matt Chamberlain and Andrew Barr on drums. Pick up a copy here and now!
Here's some of the nice stuff that's being said...
"The new Benevento record will appeal to fans of Thelonious Monk, Air, Radiohead and Phish...tunes like 'Bus Ride' and 'Are You The Favorite Person Of Anybody' are ambient soundscapes winking at the psychedelic." - New York Press
"Benevento is something of an iconoclast on the piano. He knows his Monk and his Basie, but he prefers to play like a rock star, bashing power chords into the ivories and hooking up with others who straddle the rock-jazz line. Is it jazz? Is it rock? Hard to say, but it hardly matters." - The Boston Globe
"Invisible Baby is an eight track masterpiece." - The Late Greats
"Invisible Baby will twist your synapses, feed your head, and turn on your love light. It will, in short, make you feel glad to be alive." - All About Jazz
