The Soul Rebels Brass Band - Unlock Your Mind - out now on Rounder Records

The Soul Rebels Brass Band Unlock Your Mind
The Soul Rebels Brass Band - Unlock your mind
(CD/Digital), Rounder Records, 2011-10-17

Unlock your Mind is the first Soul Rebels Brass Band's release on an important label, independent americana record company Rounder. The NOLa* brass band is well-know for its powerful live performances (more than 250 gigs per year!), but it's not so easy to capture that stamina and strengh on a studio record. Fortunately it's not the case with this new album produced by Big Easy music-specialist Scott Billington (Irma Thomas, Dirty Dozen Brass Band...). With friends and guests such as Cyril Neville, Trombone Shorty, Galactic's Ben Ellman and Meters guitarist Leo Nocentelli, the eight-piece band delivers a hot party-style gumbo. Both new compositions and covers (Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams and Stevie Wonder' Living For the City) include the classical second line funk recipe but also latin rhythms (the superb Showtime), hip-hop, reggae, and everything that makes New Orleans so special... Well, if you want to know what the true NOLa-ttitude is, you can't miss that record.
(* NOLa is an acronym of New Orleans, Louisiana : New Orleans, La)

Galactic - Carnivale Electricos - out February 21st 2012 on Anti- Records

Galactic Carnivale Electricos
Galactic - Carnivale Electricos
(CD/LP/Digital) ANTI-, 2012-02-21

Two years ago we left Galactic with Ya-Ka-May, their heaviest album to date, followed by a long, successful tour. The band did cameos in HBO show TREME and composed a few tracks for PS3 video game Infamous 2 (located in New Orleans, naturellement). Stanton Moore released a record with his trio and another mighty one with Garage à Trois, among other things. Ben Ellman helped Trombone Shorty launch his career with Orleans Avenue, producing his two first records on Verve. So with everyone so busy, a new album this quickly was the last thing we expected. We were wrong. Galactic is now 18 years-old, and it's a strong and creative teenager who can't help partying all night away while Western world - at least its financial and capitalistic side - teeters on the brink. Here comes the brand-new album Carnivale Electricos, to be released on Mardi Gras 2012...

Galactic - The Other Side of Midnight: Live In New Orleans - out on Anti

Galactic The Other Side of Mindnight
Galactic - The Other Side of Midnight: Live In New Orleans
(CD/Digital) Anti- Records 87152, 2011-05-02

New Orleans outfit Galactic has a well earned reputation as one of the most exhilarating live acts around. Last year the band released the critically acclaimed genre defying sonic tribute to the Big Easy entitled Ya-Ka-May, which The Boston Globe described as "an album that showcases a breathtaking array of New Orleans talent, from old-school R&B legends to influential underground hip-hop artists" and the Huffington Post proclaimed as “NOT your grandparents' New Orleans record!” Now the celebrated outfit offers up a rollicking live counterpart to Ya-Ka-May with The Other Side Of Midnight: Live In New Orleans out 5/3 via Anti- Records. The album was recorded during an electrifying sold-out show at legendary New Orleans’ nightclub Tipitinas which has hosted countless luminaries such as the Neville Bros, the Meters, Dr. John and Professor Longhair. The venue has, of late, become something of a regular home court for Galactic, with the band playing multiple sold out shows at the historic club throughout the year. Like Ya-Ka-May, The Other Side of Midnight: Live in New Orleans features a host of guest appearances from the bawdy hip-shaking gender bending “bounce” star Big Freedia to local legends Cyril Neville and Trombone Shorty, the whole thing capturing Galactic's deep musical relationship with their storied hometown. Only in a city like New Orleans could a night this raucous, sweaty and wild also be so incredibly profound.

Interview of Stanton Moore (english version)

Stanton Moore
Stanton Moore - Drums, foie gras & Pinot noir
(Interview by Nicolas Ragonneau, for Paris DJs - early 2011)

One of the greatest and most powerful drummers is a tireless man. Not only is he drumming for Galactic, the hottest New Orleans band, but he also finds time to run side projects with his trio, jazz-psych-punk-progressive
band Garage à Trois or Midnite Disturbers - to name just a few.
He’s also played for young Diane Birch, Joss Stone or timeless Doctors legends Dr. John and Dr. Lonnie Smith, not to mention his collaborations for drums magazines… We’ve added one more job in his demented schedule with this interview.
So… thanks, Stanton.

Garage A Trois - Power Patriot

Garage A Trois Power Patriot
Garage A Trois - Power Patriot
featuring Skerik, Mike Dillon, Marco Benevento & Stanton Moore
(Digipack CD) The Royal Potato Family, 2009-10-27

Garage A Trois is a collaboration between four of the most visionary improvisers of the time: Skerik on saxophones, Mike Dillon on vibes, Marco Benevento on keys and Stanton Moore on drums. And while improvisation is at the heart of what the quartet has staked its reputation upon at their legendary New Orleans Jazzfest sets and rare, but in demand, club tours, it's the intricate sonic tapestries, tightly orchestrated arrangements, refined melodies and positively modern approach to instrumental songwriting that's at the heart of their new long-player, Power Patriot.
