Paris DJs Soundsystem Bag Of Goodies Vol 4

Paris DJs Soundsystem - Bag of Goodies Vol.4

Hot on the heels of Djouls' new regular column, the playlist of physical CDs and vinyls sent to us by labels and artists, here's our monthly mix of goodies extracted from both those records and Loik's digital diggings. The duo has earned quite a reputation selection-wise and have cooked last weekend a one hour mix of brand new music, the 4th in the 'Bag of Goodies' series... Expect some brand new just released tracks from Bjorn Torske, Dafuniks, DJ Format, Kinny, Kojato and The Afro Latin Cougaritas, Mr Scruff, Pepe Deluxé, two soulful gems from the latest Eccentric Soul compilation, slow-mo...

03. Hidden Orchestra - Outlook Festival Mixtape info & download
04. Karl Hector - Jazz Modal du Monde info & download
05. Paris DJs Soul Soundsystem - For Ever Gil Scott-Heron info & download

It's been a very active year on the mixes front on the Paris DJs website, with no less than 20 new mixes from our crew members, and 48 guest mixes, with a unique original artwork (usually by Djouls), something closer to sonic perfection with our own audio mastering when needed (by the only Grant Phabao) and whenever possible, a detailed tracklist info with links and artcovers for each record played. We're trying to raise the standards of music podcasting each year! The Hidden Orchestra mixes are monsters. We haven't heard anything close to this before, mixing cinematic beats, hip hop, psychedelia, Portishead, their own Radiohead remixes and many more surprises. If you haven't checked those, get your ears on asap! Their album Night Walks, released on Tru Thoughts, is a real treat for fans of the jazz/nu jazz/cinematic ever-evolving crowd. Grant Phabao & Djouls' Cosmic Tropical Disco mixes are killer selections of the current disco re-edit craze, and don't worry, we'll keep on diggin' this scene in 2012. You also loved the timeless spiritual jazz offering from Karl Hector who released a stunning afro/psychedelic/jazz/funk EP, Tamanrasset on Now-Again this year. And finally many were touched by Loik's tribute mix of eternal respect to Gil-Scott Heron - may our brother rest in peace.

Captain Detendu and Djouls Are Molesting Santa

Captain Detendu & Djouls - Are Molesting Santa

We know a lot of people enjoyed the Jan Kohlmeyer Yuletide DJ Mix posted early december (very funky!), but that didn't mean we wouldn't also be there for our annual 'Wishing you a stupid Xmas' audio greetings. Every year you know you can count on Captain Détendu (the man from J.E.W.P.O.P.) to spice the Christmas selection with some eccentric carols and Hawaiian jingles. This year's mix is, as usual, full of surprises. We've been digging here, there and everywhere. Hope you'll have as mch fun listening to this one as we had cooking it. Big thanks to the Grant Phabao Express Mix & Mastering...

The Black Cat - Hard 2 Find Vol.1 Mixtape

The Black Cat - Hard 2 Find Vol.1 (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com, digital album on www.Colored-Inc.com) Colored-Inc., 2011-03-04 The Black Cat, the first album on the Colored-Inc. label (colored-inc.com) launched a year ago by Djouls and Doctor L, is what some could say a 'world' album. Blending Latin grooves with Afro rhythms, Reggae harmonies with American Jazz or Funk vibes, Saudade with Jamaican riddims, Psychedelic Funk with Electronic R&B, Psychedelia and Hip Hop, with some lusty doses of Rub-a-Dub, Afro, Soul and Reggae in between, this is indeed a kinda world tour entirely...

Djouls interview on Covert Magazine

CovertMag
Djouls interview on Covert Magazine.
(online magazine)

For those of you who like your crate diggers to have really gone the extra mile when it comes to spinning records; to have searched every nook and cranny for that impossible to ignore beat then look no further than Paris. OK, the city of romance is not exactly round the corner but if Eurostar isn’t an option then check out the collective that is Paris DJs for some of the finest and rarest funk, jazz, hip hop, salsa and reggae podcasts on the web. As well as an awe inspiring musical education of a back catlaogue of Podcasts to download (and stream live) there are also virtual releases and reggae remixes of old and modern classics from the likes of Ty, Roots Manuva and Q-Tip (one of my favourites being Grant Phabaos reworking of Erykah Badu's "Honey"). Covert recently shot the breeze with Paris DJs head honcho, blogger, DJ, TIMEC record label manager and all round multi-tasker extraordinaire Djouls.
