Jonathan Radford aka Diesler est le genre d'artistes que tout label digne de ce nom rêve d'avoir dans ses rangs. Beatmaker et producteur précoce, il frappa un grand coup dés ses débuts avec le titre Cotton Wool qui tourna en boucle immédiatement sur Radio 1, installant d'emblée ses sonorités nu jazz et funk dansantes typiquement anglaises. Avec 4 LPs et autant de remixes qu'on peut avoir de brosses à dents dans une vie, il s'est battit une belle réputation qui l'a conduit à collaborer avec des artistes comme Laura Vane, Kinny ou Grant Phabao, et des labels prestigieux comme Tru Thoughts, Ninja Tune, Raw Fusion, Records Kicks, Unity, Freestyle et maintenant Unique.
Sa venue au Soulist Sound System est un événement. A ne pas rater!

First Word Records return from the summer break with a brand new mix album celebrating five years of the label. Label bosses Andy H and Gilla have got together to pick their favourite tracks from the first half-decade, whittling it down to 16 brilliant tunes from the FW vaults. Kicking off with recent signings 6ix Toys and the infectious Giggle then moving swiftly into kidkanevil's Black Bug, the mix takes in all the label's biggest club tunes. With early highlights such as The Haggis Horns' Hot Damn! and kidkanevil's Kranium Rock (along with Diesler's bouncy re-rub), sitting alongside more recent efforts including 6ix Toys' huge cover of The Prodigy's Voodoo People and a couple of tracks from Homecut's highly-praised No Freedom Without Sacrifice album.

Drawn together from both sides of the North Sea, Laura Vane & The Vipertones consists of musicians from various Dutch & UK projects pooling their respective skills for this funk & soul group. From Holland, and more precisely Dordrecht in the south east of the country, Phil Martin & Ton Van Der Kolk - also known as producers duo AIFF - provide their instrumental talents developing the grooves and beats fired over the internet from the northern UK town of Burnley by Jonathan 'Diesler' Radford. Finally, and having cut it amongst the big boys working with The Streets, Gnarls Barkley & MJ Cole amongst others, Laura Vane, hailing from Brighton on the south coast of the UK, provides the sweet vocals and imaginative lyrics to the project. Laura Vane has been a dynamic presence in the UK music scene for some time and has worked as a vocalist for major artists Gnarls Barkley, The Streets and Omar. She can also be heard as lead vocalist for several soul, jazz and dance projects like Diesler, Part-Time Heroes, Hint and Hardkandy. Achilifunk was a great discovery for those who thought Flamenco is an impervious genre. The album, chosen one of the best compilations of the year by British magazine Wire (yes, the one with all the weird records), showed why Rumba was boss in Spain’s popular music from the late sixties to the early eighties. Some of you might remember the end of year 2007, when we put up an Unfabulous Megamix from Brighton's 21st century post-breakbeat funkster Flevans. We were celebrating the lad's second album released on the Jack To Phono label. Since then we had many thank you feedback from people delighted to have discovered those authentic new grooves. Flevans will be back on May 18th on his former label Tru Thoughts with a new album, 27 Devils, that's been playing on repeat on my CD player (along with the upcoming Quantic one). He cooked a brand new exclusive mix for Paris Djs to help announce it, with many recent but rare releases in the lot, 45s, 12 inches, bootleg re-edits, etc. Enjoy!
