Daedelus - Overwhelmed feat. Bilal - out on Ninja Tune

Daedelus Overwhelmed feat Bilal
Daedelus - Overwhelmed feat. Bilal
(Digital Single) Ninja Tune ZENDNLS294, 2011-08-08

Everyone's favourite purveyor of electronic Victorian dandyism returns with a new EP of remixes from his Bespoke album. Featuring the space-soul vox of Bilal, the original is as muscular as it is intircate, a continuing tribute to the West Coast producer's way with sound. Anyone who runs wobble-bass up against drum tardiddles and the odd burst of thumping four-to-the-floor is okay by us. First up on remix duty is Star Slinger. Hotly tipped by the likes of Jamie XX and Diplo, Mr Slinger slathers the tune in galaxy-funk keys and gets his considerable groove on. New Ninja signing Raffertie harnesses warm bass to a xylophone orchestra for a mix so good it appears twice (the second time as a dub). Hot Flush-signed Sepalcure take Tailor Made and unleash its inner rave monster, with a final result that sounds like a group of choir boys tripping in 'Beefa. Innovative and clever, but also soulful and with an easy feel for the funk, Daedelus is one of the wonders of modern electronic music. Smarten up.

Daedelus - Bespoke - out on Ninja Tune

Daedelus Bespoke
Daedelus - Bespoke
(LP/CD/Download) Ninja Tune ZEN169/ZEN169CD/ZENDNL169, 2011-04-11

After a busy couple of years of touring, remixing and releasing singles and EPs with Brainfeeder, All City, Magical Properties (the Daedelus home-imprint), Alpha Pup, Warp and Stones Throw, Alfred Darlington aka Daedelus returns with his new full length album on Ninja Tune, Bespoke, a title summing up the unique and eccentric vision of a musical artist as obsessed with the clothing of the Victorian era as he is with the music of the future. Bespoke is defined as "a term employed to mean an item custom-made to measure." Darlington explains that "I not only intended it as a reflection of the LP itself, but also an outlook on life." It's Daedelus' way of stating that it's possible to grow and flourish as a musician without settling for the drab factory pre-sets of genre. The album features vocal talent "from all around this current music mess" (as Darlington puts it). Unsurprisingly, despite the excesses of a musical dandy, the switchback turns of a restless and inquiring mind, the sheer invention of the mad scientist, everything on Bespoke fits perfectly, the work of a master tailor, for whom craftsmanship and quality is every bit as important, but no more important, than standing out from the crowd.

Daedelus - Tailor-Made - out on Ninja Tune

Daedelus Tailor-Made
Daedelus - Tailor-Made
(promo CD/Digital) Ninja Tune ZENCDS281P/ZENDNLS281, 2011-03-21
(12") Ninja Tune ZEN12281, 2011-04-04

After a busy couple of years of touring, remixing and releasing singles and EPs with Brainfeeder, All City, Magical Properties (the Daedelus home-imprint), Alpha Pup, Warp and Stones Throw, Alfred Darlington aka Daedelus returns with his new full length album on Ninja Tune, Bespoke. The first single from the album is, suitably, "Tailor-Made," both titles summing up the unique and eccentric vision of a musical artist as obsessed with the clothing of the Victorian era as he is with the music of the future. Tailor-Made is a delicious amalgam of wiggly keyboard lines, four-to-the-floor kicks, drum box flourishes and woozy, beautiful vox from Milosh. It builds and builds into a frenzied, ecstatic Daedelesque finale which will have you itching for the full album. Remix duties are taken care of by highly-rated fellow LA-er Jennifer Lee aka TOKiMONSTA. She gives it some of the LA Beat Scene lope while sneaking it a double-time shuffle all her own. The final single will feature a remix by Floating Points and some instrumental versions.

Various - Dublab: Echo Expansion

In September 2007 dublab launched the Echo Expansion tour. For two weeks the tour traveled through Europe sharing future roots music with excited ears. To commemorate this experience an extremely limited edition twelve inch featuring new songs from eight of the artists on tour was released; including tracks by Flying Lotus, Dntel and Blank Blue. Eight new tunes have been added from artists who embarked on the Echo Expansion tour or supported it from the home front and now Porter Records is releasing the compilation on limited edition CD and LP. Put this album on and experience a vibrant music collective expanding through echoes.
