Vinyl will be the EPs only but versions on the CD album will be different as well and some tracks will not be included with extra new ones on the album etc. The first EP will have between 4 and 6 tracks, depending on how many I can fit on a disc. Question turntablism, les français sont loin d'être à la traîne, bien au contraire. Le souci, comparé à la scène américaine, ce sont les salles où jouer, où scratcher du vinyle comme des super-techniciens dingues, où la platine vinyle devient un instrument à part entière, la véritable star du show. En l'état, il faut avouer qu'il n'y a pas beaucoup de place pour s'exprimer. Allez essayer de scratchouiller de la galette chez les rockers bretons, par exemple, et essayez de leur expliquer qu'il ne s'agit pas de galettes à la farine se Sarrazin... Aux États-Unis, par exemple, les concerts de scratches/turntablism sont des shows de plusieurs heures avec un rooster classieux de Djs mondialement célèbres (Cut Chemist, Z-Trip, Nu-Mark, Invisibl Skratch Piklz, X-Ecutioners, etc.).
Afin d'aider à rattraper le retard, le collectif Turntable Spirits (D'Jam, Reed, Frizzy Man et LJ's) nous propose une "mixtape" CD en forme de cours d'histoire, à ranger définitivement au rayon des classiques. Le mix audio, composé de performances live et d'inédits de maîtres du genre tels que Q-Bert, Mix Master Mike, Dj Food, Scratch Perverts, Babu & J-Rocc, Dj Craze, b, D-Styles, est une grosse tuerie de hip-hop-funk-electro-psychédélique au son impeccable. De quoi boomblaster en boucle pendant des heures! (Il suffit pour cela d'aller faire un tour dans les boutiques spécialisées ou de chercher un peu sur le web...)

Voilà un enregistrement qui, d'après les règles établies du bizness, ne devrait pas POUVOIR exister. Et pourtant. Une première version, de 40 minutes, avaient déjà été rendue disponible un an avant la mise à disposition de cette version "extended", le 18 janvier 2004 dernier. voici la version définitive, d'une heure, avec quelques bonus ainsi que des bouts d'une lecture d'un certain Paul Morley, qui a publié un livre appelé "Words & Music", dont certains passages reprennent exactement les idées développés à travers ce mégamix, en mots. Toute l'histoire du cut-up est dans cette heure, bootlegs, bastard pop, acapellas, pirates, remixes, turtablism, megamixes, manipulation de bandes. C'est un hommage définitif à un genre sans limite, un genre qui consiste à mélanger deux différentes formes de musique pour en créer une troisième, nouvelle et improbable, et parfois encore plus musicale que ses deux sources prises à part. Dj Food est un grand nerd bien dingue, il l'avoue, mais on ne peut que se réjouir d'entendre que sa passion du disque et du cut-up à travers cette heure de trip hip pop. L'enregistrement, pour des raisons de copyright, ne pourra jamais sortir en disque, mais il mérite largement sa place dans notre sélection des meilleures compilation de 2005!
