This summer, subscribers to www.alicerussell.com could listen to 90 seconds audio clips and vote for their favorite remixes from Alice Russell's Pot Of Gold album. The most popular tracks have been collated into a 22 track double CD featuring remixes from the likes of Mr Scruff, DJ Vadim, Shawn Lee, Yellowtail, The Heavy and many more, to be released in the UK through Little Poppet on October 5th, with lots of bonus goodies for the digital version apparently. DJ Vadim's remix of Got The Hunger? will be released a week earlier on September 28th in the form of a limited 7" vinyl backed with Laura J Martin's remix of Lights Went Out. October is proving to be a busy month for Alice as she embarks on a run of shows to support the releases...

Naomi Shelton is one of these precious artists. Though she, like many others, grew up singing with her sisters in their Alabama church, she has also spent much of her life in the soul clubs around New York, and her 45s, "41st St. Breakdown" and "Wind Your Clock” b/w “Talking 'Bout a Good Thing,” have long been revered and prized by funk DJs around the globe. Now, with her first official full-length release coming this May, it's clear that her singing is equally influenced by both facets of her life. This is soul music - informed by the church, perhaps, but soul music nonetheless, relatable to all. Which means that What Have You Done, My Brother?, an uplifting record that conveys Naomi's energy, her excitement, her love of music, her compassion, is no ordinary album.

"Lovelite" is a warm, rough but nevertheless determined piece of music
full of energy funk and deep black soul surrounded by a touch of
groove. Songs like "Funky Children" or " What about Love" seem to
reflect the magic of Dusty Springfield in Mayka's voice. Songs like
"Againstupidity" evoke the spirit of Soul -and Funk- godfather James
Brown. "Every Woman Is A Diva" highlights the band’s uniqueness and
their charming ability of self-irony. Another especially tasty piece of
music is "I Hate To Hate You", structured like a classic
Sixties-Motown-Song but decorated with a certain roughness that is
typical to the Sweet Vandals' sound - raw funk sound.
