We've been listening to Cee-Lo Green's music for years now, and after being astonished by his vocal prowesses on recent TV shows (MTV, Jools Holland, etc), we couldn't resist a well-deserved tribute. A member of Atlanta hip hop act Goodie Mob in the second half of the 90s, he's then started successful solo career with many singles, two superb albums in 2002 and 2004, and numerous collaborations and vocal featurings: with Outkast, their Dungeon Family collective, Common, Twista, Trick Daddy, De La Soul, Rhazel, Black-Eyed Peas... The list goes on and on and recently culminated with his Gnarls Barkley combination, with "Grey Album" guy Danger Mouse, and their worldwide hit-single "Crazy" (which you must have heard by now if you weren't lost on some stupid island for months for some reason). Cee-Lo started as a rapper, but he's also an incredible funk and soul singer, a producer and a songwriter. Weird and colorful, drenched into p-funk and soul, high-pitched and sometimes toon-ish, his voice is unique. Some would say that's too much talent in just one guy. We say Cee Lo is the one.

Cunninlynguists - "Sloppy Seconds Volume One" / "Dirtay feat. Wordsworth and Rise"

Le panier de Noël 2003 que nous vous avions conseillé comportait sa dose de hip hop du 21ème siècle avec le double album d'Outkast mais aussi une petie perle ultra funky et ultra old school, signée des Cunninlynguists, "Southernunderground", rappelant sans vergogne le hip hop français d'il y a 5 ans avec ses samples de classiques, sans le côté ridicule des textes absconts scandés avec l'accent de banlieue ultra exagéré, mais avec au contraire des flows et des textes imparables. Pour l'été 2004 on y retourne avec grand plaisir avec une mixtape quasiment déjà épuisée, "Sloppy Seconds Volume One", compilant remixes inédits, frestyles, faces B et nouveaux tracks à ras-bord (Près de 80 minutes), et surtout un nouveau maxi annonçant le troisième album "A Piece Of Strange" pour dans très bientôt, intitulé "Dirtay" et très Kusturica-stylee sur des paroles bien tordantes..!
