Clutchy Hopkins - Psychedelic Hip Hop, Funk & Jazz - Selected by Colored-Inc. (MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2010-09-13 Clutchy Hopkins has released 8 albums in the last 5 years but his (their?) identity remains a mystery. We got in touch with his first label Crate Diggler Records in january 2009 in order to license a track for the It's The New Hip Hop Thing compilation... Then we recently been contacted by someone from the Clutchy Hopkins Organization who jumped on our proposal to do a special Clutchy Hopkins mix on Paris DJs. But no concrete info leaked, so let's focus on the music:...

Fact or fiction? Is an alias? Or is this the true name for a reclusive musical powerhouse? Are his recordings vintage, new, or a mix of both? Some may wonder about these things, along with why some dudes have a long pinky nails or whatever happened to myspace, others may ask if any of this really matters? While the mystery surrounding the artist is no longer news, the music only gets better, maturing like a fine wine.
this album is the most varied Hopkins album to date encompassing lots of vocal textures, and a dash of worldly vibes. Check the Brazilian-psyche-like No Contact... Contact, and the mad spooky science of Miles Chillin, or the shuffling Thinkin' of Eva which would sound perfectly at home playing in a Parisian café. It's an album influenced by Hopkins time in jail, where, while in the courtyard, he met many international prisoners waiting to be deported. Lo-fi, acoustic, finger- snapping, hand-clapping, whistle-and-hummed jam sessions gave Hopkins the ideas which he later put to tape. The album booklet will include the entire story, unfiltered.

They're back! More collaborations from the unstoppable Mr. Lee and the mysterious one. Going deeper than before this new album brings out the best in both and features full string sections, a guest appearance from UK group The Superimposers, and some serious Mojave marauding beats.

This summer, subscribers to www.alicerussell.com could listen to 90 seconds audio clips and vote for their favorite remixes from Alice Russell's Pot Of Gold album. The most popular tracks have been collated into a 22 track double CD featuring remixes from the likes of Mr Scruff, DJ Vadim, Shawn Lee, Yellowtail, The Heavy and many more, to be released in the UK through Little Poppet on October 5th, with lots of bonus goodies for the digital version apparently. DJ Vadim's remix of Got The Hunger? will be released a week earlier on September 28th in the form of a limited 7" vinyl backed with Laura J Martin's remix of Lights Went Out. October is proving to be a busy month for Alice as she embarks on a run of shows to support the releases...

Clutchy Hopkins Meets Lord Kenjamin - Music Is My Medicine
(CD/LP) Ubiquity Records UR244, 2009-04-21
Late last year Ubiquity was approached by the mysterious Misled Children about another project from Clutchy Hopkins, the man they claim to represent. A vintage Caribbean tracksuit jacket was found in the office fridge, and written in permanent marker on the inside right arm was a request for a meeting where we would "get another piece of the Clutchy Hopkins puzzle."...

Clutchy Hopkins - Walking Backwards
(CD/2xLP) Ubiquity Records URCD221, 2008-02-05
Info :
This album might as well be the crackly soundtrack to a vintage spaghetti western crossed with a '70s porno. Rickety breaks n'beats and busted keyboard sounds pop out against lush strings, while a collection of guitars and mandolins strum alongside old-school synthesizers. It's an eerie blend of dusty-bar blues, mariachi soul and hard times funk that sounds like it was recorded in a backyard shack somewhere remote, in a small town where kids throw stones at each other for fun. Features Darondo, Todd Simon and Shawn Lee.
Tracklisting :
01. Sound Of The Ghost
02. Song For Wolfie
03. Love Of A Woman Feat. Darondo
04. 3rd Element
05. Para Los Ninos
06. Horny Tickle
07. Percy On The One
08. Rocktober
09. Alla Oscar
10. Good Omen
11. Swap Meet Me At The Corner
12. Last Time For Your Mind
