Chris Joss - "You've Been Spiked"
(Cristal Records, 2004)

Quelques uns, en 1999, mirent la main sur le premier album du français Chris Joss, "The Man With A Suitcase", splendide excercice de style en forme de bande originale d'une série télé imaginaire des années 60. Ils ne le regrettèrent pas et certrains d'entre eux eurent même la présence d'esprit de ne pas passer à côté de l'album qui suivit, discrètement, en 2002 chez les italiens d'Irma Records, "Dr Rhythm", un petit bijou inclassable, entre funk, loungetronica, breakbeat, soundtrack et acid jazz... Pour ceux-là la belle histoire continue avec un troisième album, "You've Been Spiked", sorti en mars 2004 chez les vendéens de Cristal Records. Chris Joss y joue les schizophrènes dans une partition rétro-futuriste: une base heavy funk blaxploitation, un zeste d'easy-listening pernicieux, un enrobage science-fictionesque, de la wah wah en veux-tu en voilà, un ton volontairement old school, un sens du groove affirmé, quelques bonnes doses de suspens, du breakbeat comme à la maison... Et oui: le monsieur est un boucher. Et français, monsieur!
On appréciera la présence du code inscrit dans le livret qui donne accès à un site privé où il est possible de télécharger quelques inédits et vidéos, ainsi que l'absence de procédé anti-copie à la con...
