Hot on the heels of releasing a 45 re-edit of the now lengendary Brand New Wayo track from Nigerian band Mixed Grill, and a fifth volume of the limited promo 12 inch series Afro Disco Boogie Edits from the GUYNAMUKAT production team, Nik Weston will be playing this thursday at the Jazz Attitudes party in Paris. "A venture into afro bizness featuring some rare tracks from the holy grail Mixed Grill album plus a lovely track from the recent Ebo Taylor album and a smattering of unreleased GUYNAMUKAT afro edits" was the pitch of this mix posted on mixcloud earlier this year. Here's the...

Big Pimp Jones - 21st Century Blaxploitation Vol.3 (MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) 2011-05-05 Philadelphia's Big Pimp Jones have become quite big on the 21st Blaxploitation tip, with their two funky soundtracks to Blaxploitation movies that dont exist. They loved our previous mixes on the same theme (vol.1 and vol.2) - "Those first two volumes are super-dope, we are fans of your stuff as well, that's really nice work on the Black Cat mixtape. I'd be honored to throw a volume 3 together!" said Keith Foster from Big Pimp Jones. His mix is fun & funky, keeping the 21st century...

Los Sospechos (Budos Band / Menahan Street Band) - Jano's Revenge - out now on Colemine Records

Los Sospechos - Jano's Revenge
(7") Colemine Records CLMN 108, 2010-08-17
Have you ever been hurt, wronged, or shamed? Jano's Revenge will take you past that, deep into the dark, violent thoughts that follow. Haunting horn lines blare over an evil, dirty beat like the adrenaline rush before you draw first blood. After you've served up that cold plate of revenge, heat things up with Mirror Door a sweet horn melody relaxing on a full bed of organ swells. This serenade has both a drum machine and a drummer to makesure it hits all the right spots.
The Car-Del Production team first heard Los Sospechos at a tequila distillery, just outside of Las Cruces, New Mexico. They knew immediately that this band would be the perfect fit for the soundtrack to the feature film Postales. With contributions from members of The Budos Band and Menahan Street Band, the raw and jagged sound of Los Sospechos can be both tough and tender. Working perfectly with themes from Postales to dig into the soul and guts of each character.
Fans of Budos Band and Menehan Street Band will be into what Los Sospechos< are putting down.

Dojo Cuts - You Make Lovin' Real Easy
(7") Colemine Records CLMN 107, 2010-06-14
Australia's hottest soul outfit, Dojo Cuts, drops their first 45 with us and it's a killer! The A-side is fast, funky, and super saucy courtesy of vocals by Roxie Ray. While the B-side shows a completely different side of the band as the play with control and purpose while Roxie pours out her soul in a most vulnerable way.

The Jive Turkeys - Bread & Butter
(CD) Colemine Records CLMN 12003, 2010-03-30
The Jive Turkeys are made up of four musicians who have been playing together for the better part of the last five years in a hip-hop group called Soundscape. Soundscape is a group based in Oxford, OH, home of Miami University. This is where Matt Amburgy (organ), Terry Cole (bass), Andrew DeRoberts (guitar), and Rob Houk (drums) first met. And while Soundscape has always provided all of them the opportunity to grow and develop as musicians through the group’s unique fusion of genres (hip-hop, funk, jazz, rock), The Jive Turkeys is a group that is much more narrow in its focus. The formation of The Jive Turkeys came about when the four decided they wanted to record some stripped-down, raw funk. So, they borrowed an organ, a Leslie, some old amps, all got together in a tiny little room and started cranking out tracks. The full-length debut from the kings of midwest instrumental funk is called Bread & Butter - an appropriate title considering the album is nothing but funky, soulful instrumental goodness from start to finish.
