Martin's album Ye Gods (and little fishes) was recorded at Music Box Studios in Cardiff, Wales. It was produced by Martin and Charlie Francis who engineered the sessions. Charlie has worked with R.E.M, Robyn Hitchcock and, most importantly, The High Llamas' Gideon Gay which remains one of Martin's favourite albums. The album was mixed by Charlie at his home studio in Cardiff.
After trying to finance the record through fans online, the former Boo Radleys leader (also previously known as Brave Captain) has finally released a digital version of the thing. No CD. No LP. Would love to hear it anyway, he's just one of the finest songwriters out there

Excellent Online - "Hope" (Pop covers album by American & British Bands)

Excellent Online, petit site branché pop relativement inconnu, propose au téléchargement un album entier de reprises délicates: ils ont demandé à des artistes anglais de reprendre leur track préféré d'un groupe américain, et inversement. D'où 16 covers par des groupes en majorité inconnus, d'une qualité plutôt inégale (c'est suivant les goûts de chacun, bien sûr...).
Nous avons repéré:
- Koala : "American Music", sympatique cover des Violent Femmes.
- Brave Captain : "Highway 61 Revisited". Martin Carr, ex-leader des Boo Radleys, reprend Dylan sous l'influence de (mauvaises) drogues, et c'est assez inécoutable. Mais on aime bien quand même quand Martin s'amuse... Ecoutez ses disques!
- The Multiple Cat : "Lorelei". cover improbable d'un titre du meilleur album des Cocteau Twins.
- Fiel Garvie : "Tailights Fade". Le "tube" de Buffalo Tom, version féminine assez fidèle dans son adaptation.
- The Autumns : "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want". Cover des Smiths enregistrée au piano dans une gare, probablement.
- Turnerjoy : "I Wanna Be Adored". Les Stone Roses ont eu droit à leur lot d'adoration, mais il a peu de chances que cela fonctionne pour Turnerjoy...

"Advertisments For Myself", le nouvel album de Brave Captain est disponible! On le trouve un peu partout en CD (et sur www.opalmusic.com en vinyle), et un MP3 est même disponible sur le site officiel. Elle est pas belle la vie? Bon, Martin Carr a opté désormais -en tous cas pour cet album- pour une nouvelle approche dans son écriture. Au lieu de composer ses chansons à la guitare et de construire autour ensuite, il a cette fois d'abord programmé des beats sur sa boite à rythmes, puis il a construit des chansons autour de ces programmations. D'où ce track qui part hip-pop-dub puis au bout d'une minute une deuxième batterie vient se superposer à la première, rapidement suivie d'effets spaciaux, puis au bout d'1mn45, le track par carrément dans un univers similaire à celui des Chemical Brothers: rock, électro et psychédélique. Que du bon en attendant l'album, dont bien sûr on vous parlera très prochainement dans une discographie Brave Captain sur le djouls.com...
