Big Pimp Jones - 21st Century Blaxploitation Vol.3 (MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) 2011-05-05 Philadelphia's Big Pimp Jones have become quite big on the 21st Blaxploitation tip, with their two funky soundtracks to Blaxploitation movies that dont exist. They loved our previous mixes on the same theme (vol.1 and vol.2) - "Those first two volumes are super-dope, we are fans of your stuff as well, that's really nice work on the Black Cat mixtape. I'd be honored to throw a volume 3 together!" said Keith Foster from Big Pimp Jones. His mix is fun & funky, keeping the 21st century...

What happens when you make a sequel to a movie that no one knows about? In the case of Jimmy Ruckus in the Five Fingers of Death, you end up getting ridiculously popular overseas... And the soundtrack you now hold in your hands? It peaked at number 3 on the Singapore equivalent of Billboard (hard to believe, since current final auction prices on them reach upwards of $2,000). And no wonder - the soundtrack picks up right where the original lets off, delivering even more fast and frenetic blasts of funk, sticking to the same basic funk-and-breakbeat vibe that worked for the first soundtrack with a few notable changes. First, the rock vibe on this album is more prevalent than on the first album, showing the influence of Hendrix and other prominent guitarists of the time. Second, some of the keyboard work is more advanced, drawing from the acid, prog-rock sound and creating an interesting contrast to the heavy heavy funk bottom laid down on the tracks. Third, it's worth noting how current some of the song topics were for the time, referencing Houston Astros pitcher J.R.Richard, Chicken and Waffles and 'Pink Salons' early in their development. Even though very few people knew about the sequel, apparently Singapore did - and they beat the rest of us to punch by about 30 years. Now the rest of the world gets to catch up.
Big Pimp Jones - Hanging With Roscoe - out on Freestyle

Big Pimp Jones - Hanging With Roscoe
(7") Freestyle Records FSR7064, 2010-08-30
The forthcoming rediscovered sequel Jimmy Ruckus And The Five Fingers of Death is a curious cinematic effort featuring fight scene which featured over 20 beheadings; naked female assassins using poison lip balm; a chase scene involving a monarail, a harpoon and six bison; and one of the most bizarre sex scenes ever committed to film. This slamming 45 is a teaser to wet the appetites of those discerning records buyers who flipped, slipped and fell in love with the preceding super rare blaxploitation soundtrack: Bad Bad Jimmy Ruckus. The A side Hanging With Roscoe presents us with skuzzy drums, finger blistering bass lines and chicken shed saxophone - which is lucky as the vocals inform us that Roscoe 'makes the best fried chicken' and if anyone knows his chicken it's Big Pimp Jones! The B side is the pudding in this 2 part food theme funk-out Jump Up, Turnaround Popcorn is a sweet finish to this delicious meal!

Will we ever get to see this film? Of that we can't be sure, but what we can be sure of is that you hold in your hands the soundtrack to this flick, and that it is one bad mutha. Soundtracks like this are why we dig for records - they're what keep us going when hours, days, even months haven't borne fruit, they're the things that make the travels worth it. This is one of those records that make you do a sextuple-take because you can't believe what you just found: the soundtrack to a cult legend movie that hasn't been released for 35 years and counting. And what a soundtrack it is! Drums all over the place, bass so thick you can spread it on toast and other instrumentation that adds up to a serious dose of fownk. And not only are the tunes good, but the arrangement of it all as well - who knew people used clips of dialogue like this on soundtracks back in the day? Until the movie gets released, if it ever gets released, we can at least enjoy the music from the soundtrack and the bits of dialogue that give us sparse hints about the film. Because if the film is like the soundtrack, it is going to be one bad, bad experience.
