Paris DJs Soundsystem Bag Of Goodies Vol 4

Paris DJs Soundsystem - Bag of Goodies Vol.4

Hot on the heels of Djouls' new regular column, the playlist of physical CDs and vinyls sent to us by labels and artists, here's our monthly mix of goodies extracted from both those records and Loik's digital diggings. The duo has earned quite a reputation selection-wise and have cooked last weekend a one hour mix of brand new music, the 4th in the 'Bag of Goodies' series... Expect some brand new just released tracks from Bjorn Torske, Dafuniks, DJ Format, Kinny, Kojato and The Afro Latin Cougaritas, Mr Scruff, Pepe Deluxé, two soulful gems from the latest Eccentric Soul compilation, slow-mo...

Paris DJs Playlist - January 2012

We're opening a new section on the site, with each month a selection of records that labels, artists and distributors sent to us. By records we mean vinyl LPs, 12 inches, 10 inches, 7 inches, and CDs. Not the pay-to-listen-but-you-don't-own-anything kind of digital files, but the real treat, which is a LOT more work than the standard mp3. Expect to find some already released albums and singles (some labels happen to be late sometimes, and some others it's our fault cos' we need to find the time to listen to the records properly), and of course some exclusives that haven't been featured anywhere else yet thanks to our ever-growing friendly network… Contact us is you want to be listed in this section next month.

Kojato and The Afro Latin Cougaritas - All About Jazz - out on Buyú Records

Kojato All About Jazz
Kojato and The Afro Latin Cougaritas - All About Jazz
(CD/Download) Buyú Records BU010CD, 2011-11-11 (bandcamp) 2011-12-12 (digital) 2012-01-13 (physical)

Oliver Belz, the man behind The Juju Orchestra, The Bahama Soul Club, regular guests of our 21st Century Latin mixes, is back with another new project, Kojato and The Afro Latin Cougaritas that's as much nu-jazz as it's 60s soul, 70s funk and afro-latin grooves. The Everywhere You Go Now Kuti kinda-tribute to Fela track is disturbing, it's not afrobeat at all, more of a Juju Orchestra latin thing with funky keyboards. Not that it's bad, but doesn't fit anywhere really, even though it should grace many groovy-lounge compilations in the coming months... African music lovers should go instead directly to the second half of the album, with tracks such as Afro Shigida (Original Lagos Cut), a glamourous take on afro-soul-jazz that'll grace our upcoming Bag of Goodies mix recorded last weekend with records labels and artists have sent to us during the last months. All in all this album's full of funky afro-latin-jazz for the modern rare groove dancefloors, just like the previous Oliver Belz productions: classy & smart, with a nice suit & moustache!

(CD/Download) Buyu Records BU005CD, 2010-08-13

We've played the unstoppable uptempo bossa of But Rich Rhythms, extracted from their first album Rhythm Is What Makes Jazz Jazz, in our 21st Century Latin Vol.3 mix, way back in january 2009. You might have heard the creative team around Oliver Belz before, thru its earlier incarnation as The Juju Orchestra, who got the T.I.M.E.C. golden pepper with their vintage latin singles way back in 2006 for those following my writings. The Bahama Soul Club are now back with a sophomore album, Bossa Nova Just Smells Funky, deliciously clashing neo-retro soul, jazz, bossa and afro-latin grooves into a both immediate and timeless record. Dear Oliver, as long as you will keep on delivering such tasty goods, count on me to buy your vinyls!!!
