With Ghost People, Martyn pulls Brainfeeder out of L.A. and straight into the fluorescent bounce of West London's 2-step, massaging the darker edge of Croydon's dub roots, and D'n'B's otherworldly and sci-fi sonics, while simultaneously moving through the grit of Detroit's mechanic grooves, and into the freewheeling vibe of Berghain. Yet, all the while, he maintains Brainfeeder's spirit of wild experimentalism and - as the title of his We Are You In The Future suggests - sense of futurism at the forefront, with each of the album's unpredictable tracks. Martyn has always done things his way and his way only, even choosing to release his debut album, Great Lengths, on his own label (3024) in 2009. But instead of staying in the expected zip code for his next body of work, he opted to tread a different avenue: he took Flying Lotus up on the offer to join his family. Martyn's sophomore album, Ghost People, will be released on Brainfeeder this fall. Masks / Viper is the first single from Ghost People, a taste into what's to come with Martyn's new - and, naturally, unexpected - sonic direction. The A-side, Masks, builds a spacey, sci-fi terrain, with a sharp 4/4 groove and metallic, hypnotic chromatics. Melodies sit on top of each other, winding upwards to become the ultimate soundtrack for walking through the hallway between Berghain and Panoramabar, exploring from one room to the other. Dark and fringed with a rough edge, Viper, as Martyn puts it, is "a beatless exercise in the sound that made Metalheadz". Viper (London Arches Edit) brings the feel of a gloomy dark tunnel: imagine cycling past the doors of Cable in London Bridge on a shadowy Monday night.

If indeed "you blows who you is", as Louis Armstrong once famously said, then Stephen Bruner's bass is a mainline to the soul of a man whose DNA was transcribed from the stars onto staff paper. His Flying Lotus-produced debut, The Golden Age of Apocalypse, offers both stone-cold skill and uncanny astrality, picking up where the pair left off on 2010's Cosmogramma and further distilling the jazz current running through that landmark Lotus release. A longtime contributor to others' albums, Bruner, aka Thundercat, better known as Suicidal Tendencies' bassist, is accompanied by an impressive cast ranging from Erykah Badu to members of Sa-Ra and J*DaVeY, to pianist Austin Peralta and his own Grammy-winning brother, drummer Ronald Bruner, Jr. Still, the end result is unmistakably a Thundercat record - a lush and magical document combining classic jazz fusion, futurist electronic strains and timeless musical seeking. Strangeloop [aka David Wexler] is an LA-based live-cinema artist and musician. He is signed to Flying Lotus's essential imprint Brainfeeder. Fields is not so much an album as it is an evolving A/V experience, an environment that leans more in the direction of Steve Reich-inspired minimalism than towards the beat-heavy territory that Strangeloop explored prior in his cult A/V release 2010 : [or] How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Technological Singularity. Fields is in some ways a continuation of 2010, the story of the AI deity, now waking up enlightened, made of fields of anenome-like information. The release features additional synth work by Strangeloop's longtime friend, collaborator and fellow Brainfeeder, Austin Peralta, as well as sparse vocal revelations by Singapore-based vocalist Vanessa Fernandez and Portland-based vocalist Anna Gariby. The album was mastered by Daddy Kev and features visual collaborations with artists Gavin Gamboa, Ben Olsen, and Singapore based Brandon Tay.

Coming out with one of the most anticipated and long-awaited albums so far on Brainfeeder is Samiyam aka Sam Baker. Sam Baker's Debut Album is 40 minutes of pure listening pleasure, a series of woozy, off-centre hip hop instrumentals drawing heavily on Baker's love of electronic funk but never in hock to it. Intensely detailed and carrying considerable emotional weight, this is not Rap Beats Volume 2 but an album of fully-realised pieces of music which stand on their own without the need for an MC's intervention. Ann Arbor native, Samiyam (born Sam Baker) moved to Los Angeles in 2006. In his short time out West, he has become one of the city's most progressive and recognized producers, a man who has spearheaded the revival of interest in instrumental hip-hop music over the last few years. Baker's Rap Beats Vol.1 collection was the very first release on Brainfeeder. He has also collaborated with old friend Flying Lotus as Flyamsam as well as having releases on Hyperdub and Poo-Bah records. Samiyam describes the work contained in his Debut album simply as, "my favourite stuff" – and what could be better than that?
