The Drug Store - Hard 2 Find Vol.4 - out on COLORED-INC.

The Drug Store Hard 2 Find Vol 3
The Drug Store - Hard 2 Find Vol.4
(Download/Limited CD) Colored-Inc. COLI009, 2010-09-06

The Drug Store is the first venture for the Colored-Inc. label into Psychedelic Folk & Rock vibes. Blending Nigerian harmonies with American Folk and Jazz, Reggae chants with Stoner Rock and Hip Hop beats or Nyabinghi percussions, freaky electronics with Afrobeat or deep poetry, James Bond-like arrangements with 21st century Chicago Soul, and inviting some famous Zulu Nation King & MC to a deep garage-blues session, this is indeed a kind of a Multi-Colored Thing, a nearly hallucinatory record pushing the Colored-Inc. label's identity towards more edgy forms of African, Carribean and Afro-American music.

Production duties by Erik Rug (3), Doctor L (1,4,6,8,10), and Grant Phabao (2,5,7,9), with star guesting Amayo from the Fu-Arkist-Ra and Allonymous (USA), Kiala Nzavotunga and Tony Allen (from Nigeria), The Jays (from Jamaica), Le Damn Dog, Kactus Hunters, The Joslyns and The Farell Girls (from Paris)

One Foot In Jail - Hard 2 Find Vol.3
(Download/Limited CD) Colored-Inc. COLI005, 2010-05-17

One Foot In Jail is the first venture for the Colored-Inc. label into African vibes. Blending Nigerian harmonies with American Soul or Jamaican Funk, European folk & electronics with Afrobeat, Jazz with souful reggae or deep poetry, with some hefty doses of Reggae, Psychedelia and African percussions in between, this is indeed a kind of a Afrofunk Jazz Thing, a fantastic record pushing the Colored-Inc. label's identity quest deep into the exploration of African, Carribean and Afro-American music.

Production duties by David Murray (10), Doctor L (2,4,8,9), Franck Biyong (7), Grant Phabao (3,5,6), Loik Dury (1), with star guesting Amayo from the Fu-Arkist-Ra, Antibalas, Clip Payne and The Deacon from The Duke & The King (USA), Kiala Nzavotunga and Oghene Kologbo (from Nigeria), Ranking Trevor and The Jays (from Jamaica), and The Gwo Ka Masters (from Guadeloupe)

Info :
Brian Mitchell is a guitarist you've probably heard, perhaps without even knowing. His precise playing was part of Kansas' own funk outfit The Yards, as well as Carlos Washington's Giant People and Amayo's Fu Arkestra featuring members of Antibalas. His debut CD, Rhythm and Poetry, finds the highly skilled guitarist joined by Marco Benevento (organ) and Joe Russo (drums), aka "The Duo", plus Critters Buggin/Garage A Trois instrumentalist Mike Dillon (percussion, vibes, conga, tabla). This appealing combination of musicians sounds exactly as good as you think it should, and is equally as impossible to describe!

Various - Let Rhythm Provide

let rhythm provide
best of 2006Various - Let Rhythm Provide
(CD) Antibalas Auto-Production, 2005-12-07

Press Release :
Antibalas and Ocote Soul Media release compilation of side projects to raise money for New Orleans grassroots reconstruction

Antibalas and Ocote Soul Media present 'Let Rhythm Provide', a compilation to benefit progressive grassroots organizations working in New Orleans. The compilation, assembled a few days after the floods, features unreleased material from eight distinct musical projects led by members of Antibalas, encompassing afrobeat, dub, ecstatic jazz, avant-garde pop, rock, and futuristic folk.

100% of the profits go directly to New Orleans Network (www.neworleansnetwork.org) Get Your Act On (www.getyouracton.com) and SHONOF (www.noahleans.org) a group specifically dedicated to helping New Orleans musicians find work and housing.

"The government has let us down, but we have each other", says Martín Perna, Antibalas founder, and organizer of the project. "It is crucial that we send our money directly to community groups working in New Orleans. The culture, legacy, and future of New Orleans will be distorted and ruined unless the people of New Orleans themselves are able to rebuild it. We put this together in the first week of September while we were in Chicago making a record with John McEntire at Soma studios. We couldn't do any benefit shows during the time, so we put this together instead."

The groups represented on 'Let Rhythm Provide' include:
Fu-Arkist-Ra (Amayo)
Speakerphonic (Marcos García)
Volney Litmus (Stuart Bogie)
Beyondo (Eric Biondo)
Ocote Soul Sounds (Martín Perna)
Roots Combination/Ticklah (Victor Axelrod)
Fire of Space (Jordan McLean)
and Small and Medium (Chris Vatalaro).
Soundbites of the songs, as well as links to the artist webpages are online at www.ocotesoulsounds.com/lrp.

The compilation will be available at Antibalas performances, online at www.antibalas.com, and directly from the artists represented on the project with the goal of minimizing all overhead and middlemen.

Please do you part and get some great music!
