Grant Phabao and Djouls - 21st Century Afro Spectacular
Saturday 14 January 2012, 23:59
We've counted at least a hundred very interesting new releases in the 21st century afro scene since our last mix, 21st Century Afro Extravaganza. Here's nearly 20% of all those new cool afro grooves from all over the world, with an exclusive new track from the Grant Phabao Afrobeat Arkestra, friendly vibes from Afrolicious, Karl Hector, Les Frères Smith (mixed by Phabao!), or Kiala, more friendly vibes sent by our label collegues from Record Kicks, Tramp Records, Jazz&Milk, Enlace Funk, Kindred Spirits or Kept Records and a few things we grabbed here and there. 21st Century Afrobeat,...

Afrolicious - Dub For Mali EP
(Digital Single) Eighteen Street Lounge Music ESL187, 2011-08-16
Afrolicious are pleased to announce their debut release on ESL Music. This release is truly a long time in the making even though they only recently decided to put out original music under the name 'Afrolicious'. This 3 song EP features some of the amazingly talented folks who have helped make Afrolicious the eclectic and off the hook weekly party it has become. On Thursday Night Kinda Swing they have guests Baba Duru on percussion and scat vocals and Aaron Lebowitz on Saxophone and horn arrangements. A Dub For Mali features the fabulous Ngoni work and vocals of Yacouba Diara from Burinka Faso and Mali, and flute by Izzy * Wise and Foolin features the talented vocals and lyrics of Fresh is Life from Trinidad and the horn playing of Will Magid and Aaron Lebowitz. All guitars, bass and keys were layed down by Pleasuremaker and the arrangements were split with Pleasure and Rob Garza who completed the circle with holding down the production end. Señor Oz was up in the mix during the sessions bringing the vibes together and documenting some of the sessions. Dub for Mali and Foolin' remind me of the vibe of that afro/reggae track that Grant Phabao did with Amayo a few years back. This reggae/afro mixture is hard to pin down and Afrolicious really got it, really tasty and spiritual at the same time. Recommended!

Brownout - Aguilas and Cobras - Remixed and Regrooved
(Download/limited CD) Six Degrees Records, 2010-12-07
Brownout, the Psychedelic Latin Funk alter ego of Grupo Fantasma, heated up dance-floors and critic's lists around the world with last year's Aguilas & Cobras record. The group's trademark soulful beats, psychedelic guitar excursions, tough grooves and ultra-tight horn arrangements have now been handed over to a dream team of remixers from the electronic dance, funk, cumbia & nu-groove scene, resulting in Aguilas & Cobras Remixed & Re-Grooved. Remixers include J Boogie, The Mexican Dubwiser, Tal M. Klein, Kokolo's Ray Lugo, Second Sky & Thomas Blondet, Jeremy Sole, Senor Oz, Afrolicious, Anthony Mansfield, Grant Phabao & CaZ.
Limited Edition CD: The CD version of Brownout's Aguilas & Cobras Remixed and Regrooved is now available as a hand stamped and numbered limited edition release (100 copies only!), available at the Six Degrees Shop and at Brownout live shows.
