La première compile du meilleur de Ninja Tune avec tout le gratin: Dj Food, The Herbaliser, Coldcut, 9 Lazy 9, Funki Porcini, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Up, Bustle & Out, London Funk Allstars... Bizzarement, la compilation est peut-être le meilleur moyen de faire découvrir un label aussi vaste et varié. Pas de sélection vraiment précise sur ce résumé complet des agissements de ces petits Ninjas qui, au fur et à mesure, deviennent grands: c'est qu'ils ont déja 5 ans en 1995. En tout cas, le meilleur moyen de ne pas se tromper si l'on cherche du funk jazz trip hoppé à la mode de quand? Je sais plus...

Un petit album qui présage déjà d'un son Ninja Tune. 9 lazy 9 est un collectif d'italiens rencontrés à Rome, dans un club de jazz un peu allumé. Tout de suite, les rythmes hip-hop jazz funk plurent aux tarés fondateurs du label londonien qui virent de suite le début d'une collaboration. Après un premier album, "Paradise blown", au succès notoire pour un indépendant, 9 Lazy 9 signe en 1994 un deuxième volet plus que plaisant, qui confirme les espoirs placés sur eux et sur leur label. Qui a dit que les anglais ne voulait pas de l'Europe?
