Press Release :
First Word Records was born in 2003 as a collaboration between scratch DJ Andy H (DMC) and promotor Aly Gillani (New Bohemia). Frustrated by the lack of an outlet for the music that they and their friends were producing, the duo decided that the gap needed filling, and as the year came to an end a group of musicians, DJs, designers, emcees and producers had come together to produce our debut album "Two Syllables".
A genre defying introduction to the world of First Word Records, the album was originally released in April 2004 following the single "Come The Revolution / Feel The Music" featuring First Word affiliate (and former Leeds resident) Tommy Evans and a then unknown singer called Corinne Bailey Rae.
Since then the label has grown releasing a string of highly rated singles culminating in the recent relase of kidkanevil's debut album "Problems & Solutions". With another great album from The Haggis Horns due for release in September, we thought it was time to re-release our first compilation from back in 2004.
As well as two early kidkanevil offerings and one of the aforementioned Corinne Bailey Rae's first recorded appearances, there are some real hidden treats on this album. Madeline Miller & Lee-sun's "So Near" combines folk-tinged harmonies with sweeping production and tracks from Mike-L, Today's Mathematics and Invisible Orchestra all hit the spot.
