Press Release :
The man behind Ursula 1000 is none other than the mild mannered, multi-instrumentalist Alex Gimeno. Based in New York City, Alex’s style evolved and transitioned from the sophisticated and hip background score provided by his father - a renowned member of the 50’s Latin orchestra, Los Chavales De Espana - to the heady rock, punk, disco, funk and electronic dance music of his generation. He smoothly moves back and forth between musical styles from the glamorous Jet Set era to frenetic electronica. His music is hard to pigeonhole, consisting of a multi-layered and eclectic blend of styles and genres, which goes some way to explaining why he is sought after for TV and film (his tracks have featured on "Grey’s Anatomy", "Entourage", and "Sex & The City").

His debut album, "The Now Sound of Ursula 1000", was released to critical acclaim, reaching Pulse magazine’s (US) top ten dance albums of 1999. His second release "All Systems Are Go Go", compiled and mixed from a live session, featured 18 cuts that are staples in his DJ set, giving a worldwide selection of the finest in 60’s infused big beat-o-ramas and Latin tinged percussive workouts! "Kinda Kinky" took "The Now Sound…" to a bigger and badder place, with cheeky Hammond organ breaks, spy caper intrigue, boogaloo shingalings, samba disco, a pinch of electro and bongos bongos bongos.

Ursula's most expansive opus, "Here Comes Tomorrow", explored a mind meld of jazz, electro, Latin, swing, ska, bossa nova, hip hop, psychedelia and glam rock. It featured guests such as Los Amigos Invisibles, Cristina (of ZE Records fame), Members of Gentle People, Qypthone, Cabaret Noir, Tower of Power, Misty Roses and many more.

"Undressed" is a collection of exclusive, digital only remixes culled from the "Here Comes Tomorrow" studio album, as well a brand new Ursula 1000 track "Step Back", featuring the dancehall stylings of Sista Widey. This raggaclash rocker is given the booty treatment by Deekline and Ed Solo and a rootsy stepper by J-Star. "Boop" is reworked by Skeewiff into an even jazzier beast, while "Electrik Boogie" comes to you funked up to the nines by Washington DC’s Fort Knox Five, and electro housed for the skinny jean contingent via Product.01.

Ursula 1000’s tribute to the early 70’s glam rock scene, "Hello! Let’s Go To A Disco", is re-envisioned by German producers Malente and Robosonic as minimal techno floor bangers, and "Urgent/Anxious" - featuring no-wave queen Cristina - also comes in a double whammy of devastation, this time in an electro tech breaks mix from Myagi and a pounding semi-industrial rework by critical darlings Ladytron. We wrap it up with nu-school funksters All Good Funk Alliance rocking "Kaboom" into a real groovy hip shaker.

Currently locked up in his mad laboratory, Alex is conjuring up the next Ursula 1000 adventure. Expect some magick!
