Tommy Guerrero - Return Of The Bastard
(CD) Rush Production, 2007-08-08

Info :
A new Tommy Guerrero album is always a treat. Even before listening, you already know it's gonna be lo-fi, overflowing with coolness, in a wide variety of styles, likely to offer a psychedelic tapestry of latin-funk grooves, Django-meets-Trip Hop and California sunshine vibes. Riding the P2P waves yesterday, I was lucky to stumble upon an album of his called "Return Of The Bastard"... Maybe that could be a new one, which I hadn't hear about yet?? Trying to hunt for information, I found a Japanese record label which seemed to have released this album at the end of August 2007 (Rush Production), along with a 10-year anniversary reissue of Tommy's first opus, "Loose Groove & Bastard Blues"!

On the artist's MySpace blog, more info from July '07 is available: "Hello to all... I'm in the studio mixing my next record as i type... It's called "Return of the Bastard"... Sort of a sequel to "Loose Grooves..." which is celebrating it's 10 year anniversary... Damn time does fly... It will be out in Aug in japan then Oct or so in the US. "Loose Grooves" is also being reissued this year... Been out of print for some time... Cool... Hope everyone is well and not smashing each other w/ blunt instruments... Take it easy... TG".

Venezuela 70 - Cosmic Visions Of A Latin American Earth - Venezuelan Experimental Rock In The 1970s (CD/2LP, Soul Jazz, 2016)

English label Soul Jazz Records released this summer a collection of experimental rock recorded in Venezuela in the 1970s, at a time when oil was flowing in abundance and consequently culture rather well subsidized. However, this music had never really got out of the country until now, it's really a...
