The Gaslamp Killer feat. Kutmah - I Spit On Your Grave

The Gaslamp Killer I Spit On Your GraveThe Gaslamp Killer I Spit On Your GraveThe Killer Robots Split Seven Inch
The Gaslamp Killer feat. Kutmah - I Spit On Your Grave
(CD + 7" boxset) Obey Records, 2008-04

Info :
This mix from LA's purveyor of the abstract hip-hop beat shows GLK's masterful skill of segueing curdled, gooey electronic, bass heavy electronic hip-hop instrumentals, weird psychedelia derived from esoteric Anatolian rock and jazz and funk from Ethiopia and the Middle East. Strange, un-easy listening born from the most heavy, demonic, hip-hop sludge. 'I Spit On Your Grave' joins the dots between the eccentric production of Madlib, John Carpenter's soundtracks, J-Dilla and Warp's Flying Lotus. Watch out for further collaborations between GLK and Flying Lotus and co-production on the forthcoming Gonja Sufi LP...

Press Release :
In it's fifth mixtape installment, OBEY Records presents The Gaslamp Killer Box Set featuring an exclusive CD mixtape, along with a split seven inch (tracks by The GLK and up and coming artist, Free The Robots.) After a tremendous musical barrage in 2007, OBEY takes a step further into the deeper, darker world of sound, educating those that pop isn't the only thing to listen to and that life can't be appreciated without a bit of murder and death.

The Gaslamp Killer (William Bensussen), Los Angeles based DJ/Producer, Low End Theorist, and Dublab Radio resident, is not your conventional artist. What separates him from the rest of the herd is his extensive knowledge in psychedelic rock, demonic bass-heavy Hip-Hop, Middle-Eastern/ Indian rare grooves, and ear-piercing helicopter breaks. The energy during his live sets resonates through crowds, taking you to the filthiest psyche/freak-out you've ever been on. He's earned the respect of eclectic heavy-hitters and has shared the stage with Digable Planets, Broadcast, M.F. Doom, Thievery Corporation, and many others.

"I just brought the hardest records I own to the studio and I just started putting everything together. Now it's time to share it with you..." - The Gaslamp Killer

"My art for the Gaslamp Killer mix was inspired by Theo Jemison's photograph of The GLK's face, combined with his music and personality. The GLK is into dark and psychedelic sounds, so that, combined with his name, called for a hippie/horror salad tossed with a blood vinaigrette. The flavor was only enhanced by the Gaslamp Killer's more sinister personal look, having shaved his dreads and grown an unruly beard and sideburns combo worthy of the most savage maniacs. You must wade through boiling pools of blood to get to the promised land, but the journey the Gaslamp Killer takes you on is all part of the destination." - Shepard Fairey

The OBEY Gaslamp Killer Seven Inch Box Set includes The Killer Robots Seven Inch Vinyl with two original tracks. Side Robots feature Free The Robots "Clocks and Daggers" and Side Killer features The GLK "Show Stopper." The box set also includes The OBEY GLK Mixtape featuring Kutmah, "I Spit On Your Grave." All this, packaged in a custom booklet designed by Shepard Fairey and OBEY Records.

Along with the Box Set, OBEY will also release a limited screen-printed poster and a limited t-shirt sold on www.obeygiant.com, www.itunes.com, and premiere music and clothing shops worldwide.

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
