Press Release :
"They played for 15 minutes in the middle of the floor until they blew the amps, then they spent 20 minutes smashing the shit out of everything, then they were out. Best fuckin' show I ever saw." - Chris Devlin, DJ for Spank Rock

Please be upstanding for The Death Set, also known as the MotherFuckingDeathSet. Concentrate. Straight out of Baltimore's burgeoning and increasingly wild club scene, The Death Set apply a hip hop aesthetic to punk and come up with something unique - a micro-blast of catchy choruses, screamed lyrics, chaos, violence, humor and fucked-up reaffirmation of the value of going nuts. They have toured with the likes of Girl Talk, Japanther, Ponytail, Spank Rock, Matt & Kim and Best Fwends and have been remixed by Bonde De Role and Dan Deacon.

This is MFDS - the runaway lean-in to the beautiful mayhem of The Death Set's debut album "Worldwide" - four songs which are not so much raw like sushi as raw like a crazed tiger shark.

From the sheer bliss of their refutation of "Negative Thinking" (at two minutes sixteen, the longest track on the record) - an anthem and infection. Through the snot-punk of "Heard It All Before," on into an "Intermission" which tries to outline the unique thrill of being them ("Tape deck, Select, Burning wreck, Broken neck, Dirty speck, Bitches wet, Motherfucking Death Set") this is a group that has no qualms about taking chances, about joining the dots back up between club and punk. This is amply demonstrated by the screwed finale, "MFDS". Sip ya syzzurp and ya miss it.

And that's it. No need to write more than you can read while the record's on. No need to go too deep when it's all about the rush. TheMotherfuckingDeathSet are here NOW!

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
