Syrup is the latest side-project of Munich-based musician- and producer collective, which members are live musicians and studio-actives since more then a decade. They jam together and produce different projects. The members of this 100% live-disco-formation are also involved in well-known acts such as Beanfield, The Poets Of Rhythm, Germany’s rare groove band No.1, Das Goldene Zeitalter (Max Weissenfeldt), Bassline Members (Jan Krause of Beanfield and DJ Linus) or Space Clique, which has recorded tracks for famous Bavarian label Spinning Wheel Records.

Syrup is the off-spring of the long trained and long lived funky Poets Of Rhythm. They come from the Rare Groove School, and they took the occasion to combine their creativity with the tradition of the legendary "Munich Disco Sounds" of the late 70´s and early 80´s – remember Moroder and Munich Machine! The result is a fine blend of discofied old-school Funk, 100% live played with four-to-the-floor beats, Lo-Fi funk, horn-sections and nice guitar licks.

Their first 12inch "Cold Sweat" was seen in many DJ charts by the likes of The Idjut Boys, Faze Action, Yellow Productions, Francois K......... and others. The mixes by Bassline Members (Jan Krause from Beanfield and housemaster DJ Linus) and Les Gammas are included in this package. The O.C.B. mix is made by Syrup's own Jan Weissenfeldt and a few guys from Quannum, San Francisco. Jan Weissenfeldt is a very good Hip Hop DJ, too. Syrup... a tasty pleasure for your ears & your feet! Sticky disco in a modern and very Compost-ish way!

Speech Debelle Freedom Of Speech
Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
