Surprise Me Mr. Davis ventured into The Breakglass Studio in Montreal for a five-day recording blitzkrieg in early September of 2005. Taking a pure analog approach, the group tracked some of their favorite songs from the last couple years as well as a few new ones. The album is a supercharged electro-folk album with many a tender moment. Only in Montreal EP is a limited edition cd available now, which features five tracks from this recording session as well as a live version of the SMMD classic, "Fat King of Gods," and a bonus demo version of the new fav "Rise and Shine, Sleepyhead."

For the unacquainted, Surprise Me Mr. Davis was born out of a perfectly timed blizzard in Boston that allowed The Slip and Nathan to record a studio album. Their first tour in 2004 was documented by a live release from Philadelphia.

"It was impossible to deny the songs these boys played. In particular, "Summer of my Fall" may be one of the greatest songs you don't know. For anyone who digs honest songs, gut-wrenching delivery, and mind-boggling instrumental abilities (I was even reminded of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of The Mars Volta during one of Brad Barr's heavily processed guitar intros), don't let Surprise Me Mr. Davis escape you."

"The combination of ThaMuseMent's Nathan Moore and the good men of The Slip proved a heady, nicely nuanced pop-rock explosion, with more than a few touches reminiscent of Rolling Thunder-era Bob Dylan. Far different from either of their regular gigs, Mr. Davis uses the same raw ingredients as Wilco and beats them at their game by writing better songs."

"Nathan Moore proves to be one of the most under-appreciated song writers and story tellers of our day. Backed by The Slip, this band is a sure thing."

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
